Small wheel attachment for Grizzly?

Hey all.

I am going to be working on a bowie handle tomorrow and was thinking about a small wheel attachment. Up until now I have been using the drill press with different sized sanding drums but the sanding tubes go fast and I get wood dust all over everything as the drill press is in the garage.

My question is: have any of you built, or have recommendations for a small wheel attachment for the grizzly?

I was thinking (depending on how low the arm for the tracking wheel goes) I could build an arm that attaches to the bolts that hold the platen. Maybe of a thick bar that widens to two slots to attach to the bolts and then at the other end, a rod to attach bearings and a wheel to. Any suggestions or faults you see in this idea?

Thanks all
Ian

Edit might not be a grizzly clone but same idea, and hopefully some ideas for you
Yeah thats is pretty much what I was thinking, cool.

One more thing. I don't think the tracking wheel on the grizzly would go as low as necessary for a small wheel with the belt above and below out of the way for deep curves. So I am throwing around the idea of a tensioning wheel that runs on the grit side of the belt. I have seen this on a few grinders but I could imagine there could be problems?

On my Grizzly, I can see a couple of problems with doing this:
1. It runs pretty fast, which might damage the bearings on the smaller wheels.
2. The tracking is already an issue on my machine. Adding more wheels might make it worse.
3. If you 2 more wheels on top of that for the clearance, you might not be able to get the tracking wheel shaft short enough.

How small of a wheel do you need? You might be able to get a 2 inch wheel to replace the drive wheel if you make a longer shaft for the tracking wheel arm:

As a bonus, it will slow it down as well. (The belt, not the motor)
