I have a Boker Nano and it is pretty nice for a small folder and I like it for what it is. I also have a Fred Perin Le Kiridashi thats small but unique and razor sharp. I had a War Toad but traded it off to someone but it was nice. I have a Spyderco Grasshopper too. Some people think they aren't really practical but you don't always have to have a large folder (which most of mine are) and sometimes you can't carry a larger knife.

While browsing last night I came across the Spyderco Pingo which is bigger than the others but still in the small category compared to many folders, but I am facinated and have to have one.

I like them the way they are but I'm always facinated by the different mods and customization people do to these blades. I would love to do some customizing myself whether its by my hand or adding aftermarket scales, etc. Of course there are a number of others in this category. I own a lot of different knives but I do have a itchy spot for smalls too.

Do any of you own or like these smaller blades? Do you like the idea of customizing them or just like they are from the factory? Tell us what you like about them and post pics if you got em'.

Nice knives, ive been telling myself to get a nano since they came out. I love small knives too. Smallest i have right now is a Spyderco Techno and a Victorinox SD on my keychain. The techno really surprised me on how much i like it.
And a dragonfly2 (zdp189) is one of my go to knives. Its in the top 5 folders list for me.
And i always encourge customizing knives to fit ones personal taste:)

I was surprised because I thought the Nano was a bigger knife despite it's name. It is small but capable and really sharp. I keep it in the strap of my Maxpedition slingbag but carry it on occasion.

I've tried hard to edc a small knife, smallest I've been able to deal with is the benchmade mini stryker.

The Spyderco air is a really small knife too. Its alot smaller and alot nicer in person then the pictures. And a fun cheap one is a boker subcom.
A ladybug hawkbill salt is one of the knives on my list. I find small blades handy and very useful. Especially anything that can fit in my coin/watch pocket, which is other wise wasted space for me. They cant do quite as much as a larger blade of course, but still have their place. And for some reason i find really small and ridiculously large blades the most fun to play around with.

I love small knives.. but not too small!

Currently in the pocket is this vintage beauty

Just about the size that disappears inside your palm

They looks purdier than the big ones!

My smallest knife is a ladybug in HAP40 that permanently resides on my keychain. Other than that i have a dragonfly 2 in vg10 which is very nice, i usually carry that when i go to town since its so small non treathning and yet can fit a full 4 finger grip on it.

Interestingly the Spyderco Pingo's mini Spyderhole is exactly the right size to accept a pair of Benchmade thumbstuds like the ones found on the Sequel or 940.

Love my squeek:

I'm pretty sure I'd also enjoy the Pingo alot.
A very good looking blade imho.

I wanted a small gent, purchased a gerber mini fast draw, it was the perfect size and shape but a cheaply made knife. I searched everywhere and only like axis lock. Ended up cutting down a valet, Limited edition sequel 707-1701, 940-2 and currently a slightly shortened megumi which is being drilled and threaded for a clip.

I like the G-10 Manbug. I typically like to stay at or under 3" in blade-length.

I unscrewed the thumbstuds from my Benchmade 707 Sequel and screwed them through that little Pingo hole on the blade. They fit PERFECTLY!! So if you get a Pingo be sure to hit up Benchmade for an extra 707 thumbstud. It is a simple mod and turns the Pingo into something that can seriously compete at the small slipjoint level.

One of the nicest little knives I have had the joy of owning is the Spyderco Techno. There is just something about this knife where even though it is small it feels hugely capable. The DpX HEAT is a real nice little bugger too!

I guess some people have different definitions of small.

This is small

This peanut while technically small doesn't feel that way when it's cutting well above it's weight.

I would not consider this Vic pocket pal to be small

Or this imperial Barlow

Or this schrade 33OT.

Or this Vic recruit.
Many people might consider these last 4 to be small by today's standards, but I wouldn't.
I don't go just on blade length, but on general size and bulk. A modern folder equal in length but much wider and bulkier like the boker nano or that Spyderco would really not be small by my standards.

My stainless Dragonfly was my EDC for a decade, and I still carry it on occasion. As a rule, I don't carry any knife with a blade longer than 2-3/4", which most would probably consider small.

Spyderco Baby Jess Horn sprint run in gray G-10 is a very small package that cuts big. I like it.
