Let's get right into it. a forumite was curious about this pack so i tossed a review together today, took it on my hike (7 miles through some pretty rough country.) normally this pack is reserved, in my life, as a travelpak, taking the train and so on i toss everything in it, so it hasn't seen much woods time. my other snugpak gear and pack have though and they have all performed perfectly.
the spot i sat to snap the pics for the review, midway through the hike

here she is, she's a beast! for what i normally get into, this is too much pack for me, but if room is what you seek than look no further.
here she is. (not fully stuffed, less than half so i'd guess)

those pictures were taken WITHOUT the "rockets" (detachable side storage) here is a side view, without them in. we will get back to them shortly.

FEATURES
Part of the reason i love snugpak bags. ligh, hidden, attached, standard, rain covers! one this pack however, there is one flaw. the "tie downs" for the pack-raingear is plastic and sits in your back. you'll see. this is not generally how snugpak does them, and i haven't used THIS pack with it done up enough to know how annoying it gets.

the interior has a pocket for a bladder system (i've never been a fan and have no used it) but it seems well built

The main compartement is huuuuuge. i personall don't like a million different nooks and bands and pockets and holders. that often come with expensive brands, that's what attracts me to packs like this. let me organize myself, and stop wasting room with different gadgets i likely won't use.
Fiskars garden hatchet for size. (note that i have it laid out flat on the bottom, though it is slightly longer than the bottom of the packs fabric.

This pack does have a removable internal frame, i'm sure there are many things it could be used for once taken out?

a view of the retaining system at the top of the bag that is then covered, ofcourse, by the top flap with the pockets.

Most of the stuff i packed in. largely to add some weight to the pack. also i am planning a review on some of the other gear, especiially the Tarp.

Now for the "rockets." they both have a very large capacity as you will see in the pictures, and secure EXTREMELY well to the pack. there is a yoke system that can be purchased that turns the two rockets into a day pack, i don't have it yet, but i am intrigued. the rockets are zipped, clipped, and sinch strapped.

these are the two clips at the top of each rocket

here is one rocket with my tarp setup and a Maxpedition bottle holder, with guyot bottle, gsi mug, and fire kit in pouch. with room for more! haha

In conclusion this pack is EXCELLENT for several reason
pros.
-large capacity
-tough as anything
-adaptable (sizewise)
-affordable compared to most packs in its class (some may disagree but this is my review haha)
-simple, no gadgets, bells or whistles

cons
-straps are not the most comfortable if you're planning long distance treks
-rain covere has minor flaw
-simple, no gadgets, bells or whistles?

basically i'd buy this pack again and again, as with all my snugpak gear. for my personal needs it's ideal. though i think the mark was missed slightly in comparison with the sleeka force pack which i think is perfection. but for the prices i have seen them at, i am willing to trade some comfort for lots of toughness.

and there it is.... thoughts? what did i miss???

seriously don't be shy, i've never done one before and would like to figure out how to get my next ones just right. i can take different pics or comment on things i missed. hope it's helpful!

And yes, i wrote BF for bladeforums on my hand to remind myself to switch all my crap into this pack this morning haha....

Good to finaly see a review of this pack!! Good review by the way.

Now how durable is the material it is made of?

I am impressed with the capacity of the Rockets. Those hold way more than most pockets on packs.

I too prefer top loaders without a lot of organisation. Leaves me more flexibility.

Great review!

I got the same one same color with side bags and yet to use it hahahaha. Maybe this summer.

well i know i've been using my sleeka force fooooor 18 months without a problem? i could do a bit of a progress report with that i suppose. same materiel

I have the same pack and I love mine. I've been trying to track down a PLCE yoke for the side pouches but it works awesome as it is. The great thing about it is that you can store whatever food you have in one of the sides, remove it from the main pack and hoist it up with paracord to confound the bears. Works much better than a plastic bag because it's squirrel and racoon-proof as long as you secure the zipper pull with a bit of paracord. I suppose they could chew through it but I haven't had a problem yet. Also, the compression straps on the side are perfect for a small axe or tomahawk with the top loop through the sheath and the bottom cinching the handle to the pack. The rain covers are a supreme help and I've left my pack out in light rain overnight with no serious soaking occuring.

northern, I am the forumite who posted about this pack. I greatly appreciate your review and think you did a good job. You state that the straps are not too comfortable,
do they dig in? Is there anywhere to attach a bedroll on the bottom? and How much does the pack itself weigh?

Nice pack. The zippers looks nice and chunky. Good little hatchet you've got there.

How does the pack feel with weight on the hips? The padding seems very minimal but that is secondary to how well the frame transfers load. I've heard good reviews of the snugpaks.

personally i felt great in them! i know that this pack has been picked on a little for not having the most comfortable system (something i was warned about before i picked it up) as you can perhaps no see in the pictures, it doesn't have little things like those nylon straps than would go from the top of the pack to the top of your shoulders? i'm sure there is a name for them but i don't know it, i will take a picture in the morning. i have always gone the traditional, canvas and leather route, so this feels like a rolls royce to me, but i felt i should mention that i have sometimes felt on my own on that front haha. as for fit, it digs in nowhere on me, but it has been a common complaint i have seen in the past.
so far as a bedroll goes i would tend to put mine under the straps connecting the top flap to the main pack, there are two straps and clips that attach there. this is how i have always done it, how were you hoping to strap a bedroll on? i could give it a go tomorrow

there are also small straps on the back of the pack that i believe are made for this applications. the yoke straps i have seen on ebay, for a fairly reasonable price, i want to say 40$?
i keep me fishing rod in those same straps you spoke of on the sides. i should have snapped a picture i was doing it at the time. and it rests inside the bottom of the shoulder straps... more prictures in the morning

to be honest i haven't loaded the pack up fully and gave it a good hike. it's faired just fine fully loaded packing between train stations and such, and today it felt real light the way i had it packed (which was by no means a Max packing job, maybe half)
i also have felt great about snugpak products, the smaller pack is amazing

Nice review. The Snugpack gear seems to be good quality and reasonably priced.

Load lifters or load lifter straps. :)

About how tall are you guys that own this pack? I've heard it doesn't work so well for taller people, which is something of a concern for me at 6'3. I like the design of it with the rocket pockets.

haha thanks Blackhills... ya learn something new every day! i should have known the term, but to be honest i've never heard it used before. does anyone have feelings on their actual utility?

i'm just barely under 6 foot (5'11 and a half....always wanted to be six foot. never made it haha...) i wouldn't tend to recommend it for a frame larger than my own, i'm 175lbs and pretty fit.
