So... how do you display your collections?

Lots of pictures of knives and collections here on the forum... and I'm curious how people are dealing with storing and/or displaying their accumulation/collections.

Ever since I became a BCCI member last year, I've been taking advantage of the Buck Pro discount (aka buying spree), as well as buying off "the bay". I'm at the point now where I want to get the growing pile of boxes out of my bedroom closet shelves and the knives out for display.

I'm a proficient wood worker and have been toying with an idea of making a cabinet with slide out "drawers" that are glass topped display cases.

A neighbor who is flooring contractor that knows I like woodworking, gave me some big bundles of commercial grade 3/4" thick x 4" wide solid Rosewood flooring planks, that was left over from a custom job he did. It would make for some nice display cases, but man it's some hard and dense (heavy) stuff to work with. I have no other planned use for it, and it would make some beautiful display cases with brass hardware.

My other choice would be to repurpose an unused wood/glass entertainment center that we already have, into a knife display cabinet.

Anyway... I would appreciate seeing some example of how you all have approached this.

I only have a handful of knives on display in a small display case. They are all knives that have been given to me.

The rest of my knives are all stored on some shelf racks in their original boxes. Some are in secondary boxes that I purchase in 4 sizes than store them on the racks. I also have a blueprint cabinet
I have knives stored in.

I do have a display I take to show at a couple places but I do not have it set up in my house. fI also have 4 aluminum glass topped display cases I purchased and sometimes use.

The 3 display cases on the bottom I built a few years ago. The ones on top I purchased online. Sorry about the fuzzy picture.

honestly, that's a great thread, thanks for the link!

I keep most of mine in a 7 drawer cabinet we found on the dreaded A site. It is a little small for my collection now, so some of it hangs on wall plaques, sits on shelves, and the more common "edc" types go in a couple rollups. A couple hide in the safe. Would love to have some of the free standing with glass display cases shown on that thread, but Mrs ID has ideas for home decor that don't match that vision... ;)

Sometime later this year I'm going to have made a wall hanging display case for about 25 of my favorite 112's..Table and floor space is tight so I plan to put it by my desk and make it so I can change it over the years as new favorites are added. I'm thinking about a open shadow box so I can play with them easily.
For storage consider SackUp's! I like the 12 knife size..Perfect for 112's and really protected from dings and damage. That's what I'm taking my 112's to Atlanta in.

I repurposed a gun cabinet my Dad built in high school. I couldn't be more proud of how it is serving me. I routinely change out the knives in it as it won't hold them all. I have other keepsakes in it as well.

Hi caquino,

You have alreay seen some of my display cases in the linked thread above. I'll add a few more photos below. What type of display cases are you wanting to see, home display cases or the type of display case one would take to a knife show?

Anyway here is a few more home style display photos

JB4570... It's for home display. In the thread link posted above, post #21 in that thread has a style that I was thinking of. But there are also many other displays in that thread that I like too. I'll likely pick elements from different display ideas and incorporate them into something that works for me. I'm limited on floor/wall space where a display cabinet can fit.

LOL... yeah, when I was caught eye balling her glass china display cabinet in our dining area, "she who must be obeyed" told me "Don't you EVEN think about it!!" Sigh... it would of made one dandy of a display.

Thank you, David, you are right. I need lights in the wife’s glass cabinet. 😂😂

I picked up this 10 drawer chest a few years back.
It makes for easy access to folders, and other knives I routinely use.
You can easily get 5-6 small fixed blades, in sheaths, in each drawer.
Maybe 4 105's, or 3-4 119's w/sheath tho the sheath sorta catches when opening as the drawers are not very high.

It beats keeping your favorite knives in boxes, they are in one small space.

And each drawer will easily hold 12 or more folding knives
