So, just how good is Benchmade's warranty anyway?

Long story made short, my Benchmade 51 Morpho balisong got put through the washing machine today. The first 1/8" or so of the tip of the D2 blade is broken off and the latch is broken off flush at the handle. The aftermarket Flytanium scales I installed after purchase received only minor removal of the anodizing on the very ends, but no other real damage. I'm going to contact Benchmade to see if the damage can be repaired if I send it in, or if they can at least supply me with a latch if I have to retip the blade myself. I'm really feeling stupid right about now for leaving a $400ish knife in my pocket on laundry day.

might be $25 for blade replacement but i think they'll cover you. i recommend a phone call as opposed to an email.

I hope they can replace the blade with a stonewash finish one, or maybe re-tip and re-sharpen the old one.. My Morpho is one of the Blade HQ exclusives with the stonewash finish and blue G-10 scales that my wife got me for Christmas. I added blue Flytanium scales after I got it to add a bit more weight but kept the blue G-10 scales in the original box to preserve them. I can probably have the titanium stripped and re-anodized at some point. The latch actually broke in two places: 1)flush with the handle and 2)the head of the latch snapped off. I found the latch head but the other part (the shaft?) that broke off is still MIA. I'll definitely make a phone call to them.

So about three years ago I bought an aftermarket set of scales for my mini grip. When installing them I messed something up and stripped the pivot. It was like the blade had no detent at all. I contacted Benchmade and asked them to reinstall the factory grips for me. They said send it in, but that they would have to charge me $25 for opening the knife up. I said that was fine with me because it was my fault. My mini grip arrived about two weeks later sharpened and was not charged a dime. Now that is great customer service. They didn't even charge for return shipping. To me the best CS in the BIZ.

I screwed up my 581 royally a while back. Was trying to adjust the pivot, somehow ended up stripping something, twisting something, and the knife had no detent. It had to be held closed by the lock, and opened like an auto by releasing the lock.

Mailed it to BM with a note explaining what I had done, acknowledging I had obviously voided the warranty, asking can they please fix it, and could I have also have 2 split tail pocket clips. Included my contact details. I fully expected to pay for repairs, 2 clips and postage back to New Zealand.

About 3 weeks after I mailed it, it was back in my hand, fully repaired, with 2 clips, free of charge. Man was I impressed with that!

Couldn't ask for more in terms of Customer Sevice......period!
I always call first, I try to talk to Micah if possible.....she is an absolute pleasure!!!
Sent in a 760 I got off the Exchange. I am the third owner. They completely reconditioned everything for free! Had it back in 10 days!
Sent in my 581 after I dropped it and chipped the hell out of the blade! New coated blade, new O springs and a tune up......$40! It's like getting a new knife!
Best CS in the industry!
Joe

I've had nothing but excellent CS experiences with Benchmade.

Coincidentally I just sent them one of my knives last week and didn't call first. I just downloaded the form and followed the instructions.

I'm not concerned. I'm sure they will do the right thing.

BM has the best customer service of any knife company is dealt with. Give them a call they will do you right.

I once emailed to get a replacement pocket clip, for which I was willing to pay. I think this was on a Thursday. I asked for black, the knife (Ritter Mini) comes stock with stainless. The rep asked for my address, and by Tuesday, I think, I had a black clip on the knife, for which they asked me to pay nothing. Not exactly a broken tip, but I think it speaks to their willingness to accommodate in a timely fashion.

Like everyone else has said, best customer service in the business.

I have a habit of sending them 3-4 knives at a time with a nicely written request for each. My last batch took about 2-3 weeks to turn around, but it was worth it. Each came back EXACTLY how I wanted it and razor sharp. No complaints here, just great customer service. Remember that this is part of the price you pay when buying a BM. The extra coin upfront is worth it.

My experience with them has been second to none. I broke the tip off one blade while caping an elk... They replaced it. The second time I broke a pocket clip and they sent me replacements. They are a great company that stands behind their products.

Good service I would say..
I have emailed them in regards to clips, and just recently stripped one of the screws, they sent me a full replacement set.
Very happy with how they take care of their customers.
For that I have many benchmades.

No hesistation at all sending knives in,as it WORLD CLASS SERVICE regardless of where in the world you are

They were great to me as well. I needed some parts for my 42 and they sent them out right away. AAA+ service

Over 20 years and hundreds of Benchmades there was not a single issue Benchmade's CS dept. couldn't handle. They've been that good. (To you and me and the rest of us.)

About six months ago I sent in a Bone Collector 15030-2 with walnut scales to be serviced. While in route either someone stole the knife or if got ripped from the padded envelope I sent it in ( I know should have used a box). They got my ripped package and paperwork requesting service, but no knife. Long story short, they replaced my bone collector with a brand new similar designed north fork FREE OF CHARGE. I didn't even have to beg or ask, they just offered to replace it even though it wasn't their fault. Now I love my north fork even more than the bone collector. I can't say enough about their customer service. It's the best I've seen at any business.

Just reporting back. Got my 51 Morpho back from Benchmade today. Latch and blade replaced for $30.00! Can't tell that it was ever damaged. Great customer service and fast turn around time.
