So, you removed the child safety from your bic mini, right?

Now, DON'T THROW IT AWAY!
Today I stumbled across a very convenient coincidence. When the little strip for child safety is removed, it just happens to have the right width to be clipped under the tab which activates the gas.
This is a simple mod, which prevents leaking gas, as well as making the lighter easier to use once removed.
the end of the child safety that fits under the flame side even has a convenient bend which gives you a handle to remove it with, when you wish to use the lighter.
After removing the child safe band, bend it at the section with the two forks so that it breaks, then bend into a slightly acute half circle, then simply slide it in under the gas tab.

..I'm guessing some will need pics, so they will follow shortly.

should be adequately self-explanatory.

great thinking, I always wrapped a zip tie around around the same area.

Very smart. I always took these off but just threw them away. I like that. It's also good for a child who doesnt know how it shouldnt be there!

Awesome Idea! Thank you Thank you Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the compliments everybody, I noticed it today & it seemed far too perfect not to pass on.

If you push the two tabs/forks down rather than pry them up you cant scratch your thumb

I bend them back down into place afterwards, using the needlenose pliers.

Tiger Dude, I think most people remove the child lock to make the Bic easier to "flic" when your hands are cold/numb. At least that is my reason for removing them.

So why remove the child lock in the first place? Doesn't it do the same thing?

The child lock makes the sparker more difficult to use, removing it then wedging the bottom end of it beneath the heel of the gas button locks it so it cant be depressed and discharged in your pocket or bag.

yeeep!

They both deter it from being lit, but this keeps the fuel from being emptied between now and when you need it.

Dang that's good! Just did it with the one in my little pocket kit. Soon to be done with the ones in othre kits. Thank you very much!
