SOG Agency/Tech Bowie/S1T?

Just wondered if anyone had one or more of the following: 1) SOG Agency; 2) SOG Tech Bowie; or 3) SOG Bowie S1T. They look like beautiful knives. I'd like to get the Agency, but I don't know whether to get the Tech Bowie or the S1T? Or...whether to get any of them.

The knives I'm interested in have the TiNi finishes, which are gorgeous. They're polished to a mirror finish and remind me of the finishes on the old Colt Pythons. It's just that I don't know how sharp the knives some and whether they're priced right. I can get the Agency for about $140 and the Tech Bowie for $115. The S1T comes in at about $144. Are these knives worth the money or are they all fluff? I know the blades are AUS8 and that I can get good carbon blades for less; but how about the workmanship?

The Agency has a 7.5-inch blade and seems well designed with attractive epoxied leather washers. The Tech Bowie has a Kydex sheath and a Kraton handle. I just don't know whether with the leather washers of the S1T are better than the Kraton of the Tech Bowie, and the leather sheath of the S1T or the Kydex of the Tech Bowie.

Anyone have any views on these? Thanks!

I have own them ALL and I have collected SOG SEKI JAPAN varients for long time! This is just my opinion-> If u want them as users Buy any of them on the ebay market for less. Now if u want something that is collectable for a few bucks more buy the older SEKI JAPAN versions.. Here is my take or review..

1) SEKI JAPAN SOG S1 BOWIE VS the NEWER SOG S1T or Super bowie-- You cannot compare the NEWER SOG IS GARBAGE.. It really is!! Plain and simple! , thats my opinion.. I have owned BOTH

2) SEKI JAPAN SOG S2 vs SOG TECH Bowie-- You cant compare them however I like the NEW SOG TECH Bowie better than the SOG S1T.. It feels more solid... The OLDER SEKIJAPAN SOG S2 or SEKI JAPAN TRIDENT is just badazz. The BLADE THICKNESS is 6.999mm or 7mm.. The newer ones are like 4 or 5mm..
The vintage SOG S2 has micarta handle and is just stunning

3) SOG Agency vs ??? there was no SEKI JAPAN SOG AGENCY -- However SOG made a knife called the SOG RECON with a beautiful gun blued finish..

I am hard on the NEWER SOGS.. Sorry.. They are fine i guess for a user, but i would NEVER pay 140$ for one of those knives. 70-80$ sure for a user..

I mean we all gotta buy what we can afford,so SOG is trying to fill that gap I guess..

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks, Dax. Although the older knives have thicker blades, the question is whether that's good or bad. Thinner knives are lighter, faster in the hand. And though I like micarta handles, the Japanese knives don't have that beautiful "gun blued" finish. You also said the "newer SOG is garbage." In what way? It's one thing to say it's not as good as the older models, but are the new knives really garbage? The vintage S2 is a thicker knife, but it has a 6.4-inch blade as opposed to the Super Bowie's 7.5-inch blade. And though the handle sports leather washers, they're epoxied, which makes them pretty impervious to water and rain.

What draws me to the SOG is the beautiful blued steel. But if it's "garbage" I'd like to avoid it. If it's just preference that's one thing; but if the steel is sub-par or there are other problems, I'd probably pass.

I'm really taken with the SOG Agency. What version is yours? Do you have the polished blued steel or standard stainless?

If anyone else has these SOGs, don't hesitate to jump in!

Confederate.. excellant point.. i should not have used the word garbage.. they are not.. i hold a grudge because i bought one of there larger sog s1t superbowies i believe and the gaurd was loose and a few other issues so that stuck with me.. i agree thinner knife would be a better weapon but i am a wanna be rambo type guy and i dont use my knives other to look at..lol.. i used poor wording.. agreed SOGS ARE NO GARBAGEnand can be good users..i have no idea on their edge holding abilties. That would be extremely important if u went ot the woods and it would only cut for 30mins.. again i am a city slicker who is partial to the old sog days ... also the newer sog company put out this 2500$ badazz looking blade.. nice hi end knife but grossly overpriced.. sorry for the rant

No problem. The reviews I've read tend to be great, but a lot of people who own them have mixed views.

I'm also looking at the SOG Jungle Warrior, but I suspect there are better knives for the money. But I'd like to hear from those of you who have Jungle Warriors. Nutnfancy indicated that these knives didn't come particularly sharp, but he said the expensive Bowies came with very sharp blades. So what's your experience?

Hmmmm.. I really never gave SOG another SHOT after i paid like 180$ for a new school SOG SUPER BOWIE. I felt so let down, then i bought a few other NEWER SOGS off feebay like the SOG S1, newer SOG2, SOG beadblasted hmmm cant remember,, the qaulity was decent for a 80-100$ knife.. You are right NEWER SOGS are NOT SHARP!! The newer SOG S2 from Tawian is sharp and appears to be made well.. The NEWER sog s1 with leather handles where disapointing..

I love my vintage SOGS... They are made well, but they are expenseive.. I just bought a SOG TECH 2 ON THIS SITE for 260$. So i am spendng some money on vintage sogs..

Take care

Just one quick note. The agency is about half the thickness of the bowies. Factor that into your decision making if you plan on using them instead of collecting.

The Agency arrived and it was flawless. The knife itself was much more beautiful than well designed. The handle is slippery and the blade is quick and delicate. In short, it's strictly for combat and ill suited for that. Any rain or moisture on the handle and the knife would be tough to hang on to. The area where the blade meets the handle also is awfully narrow. Perhaps with a Kraton handle the knife would be a perfect fighting knife. As it is, however, it's great as either a safe queen or for opening dog food.

I'd buy it again, but only because of its beauty. I'd also prefer 5160 carbon steel over AUS88 stainless.

I'm now looking at the SOG Super Bowie. It's a stronger knife with a 7.5-inch blade. The Tech Bowie blade is 6.4 inches and the polish is inferior. The knife also doesn't fit the Kydex sheath very well and simply putting it in and out rubs part of the finish off. Bummer.
