I need help!

Got this SOG Pentagon very recently however I cannot match up the SOG logo on the handle to anything on the manufacturer website.

Its really confusing me as I do not know if I have an older or newer Taiwan model... It says SOG but looks sleek and has no cross-hair on the 'O'

Can't post a photo it seems. Brilliant. I can email photo if needed.

Just want to make sure nothing else has changed with the model. Any information would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

If this works it wont be up for long as is on imageboard.

Anyone able to permanently upload this image to thread or help with posting images?

Looks legit to me. That is their newer digital looking logo. I don't think anything has changed but the logos. Should still be made in Taiwan and should be AUS8.

Thanks for the info!

I just couldn't understand why their website doesn't show the updated logo.

sog_S14N.jpgSOG-S14-SOG-Pentagon.jpgI agree that it looks authentic. But I can appreciate the concern since the Pentagons I've seen look like these.
And there are minor differences, but it's likely the latest changes.
I have in the past sent photos to the manufacture's customer service only to be told that certain features that concerned me was a limited run at a certain time. So if you are worried best to check with SOG.

This was my concern too. Then again it would probably be impossible to fake a knife like this for £70 and turn a profit?

I am waiting to hear back from SOG and will post back when i get a response.

Thanks for the reassurance

Speaking of the pentagon and AUS8, what is the best way to protect the blade from corrosion?

I have not had much experience of protecting this steel (I abused my NW Ranger to death in the field.)

I have some anti rust spray but has PTFE in it. Should I be coating the blade in something?

You shouldn't really have an issue as long as you don't put it away wet. That said I do protect all my blades, even the stainless ones. I use Tuff Cloth. For something food safe you could simply use mineral oil or I have heard good things about froglube.

Thanks for the tips guys, will have to try to fing something like froglube in the UK.

Btw, two emails and 2 days, no response from SOG.

I use Marine Tuff Cloth. The manufacturer says it provides a thicker coating than
the regular Tuff Cloth. Don't really know if it's true, that's what they say.
I feel it really helps with my Carbon Steel blades. I'm really not sure if it really helps
so much with the stainless ones.

I have some Marine Tuff cloth like Ken. It works great as well. On the cheap and food safe you can use mineral oil. You for sure have it in the UK. Oh, and just some knife pictures for fun...

I like the old Seki design. I love the contrast between the two. Might look to get one in the future.

Still no word from SOG. Don't want to phone from the UK because it will cost a fortune. Is their customer service number free from the USA? If so, anyone fancy calling the query in? :D

I wouldn't even worry about it. That looks totally legit to me. Don't be surprised if you don't hear from them for a while. Many companies take this week off.

Thanks Craytab, you are probably right. After looking around the forum these last few days it is very apparent that SOG minor change lineages are tricky to trace! I never even knew they made a limited run cocobolo Pentagon (drool) and I even saw one with a brass guard pop up on an imageboard recently??! Either way I cant get enough of that Pentagon edge. I honestly hope they are made of AUS8 forever. Sharpened to razor edge last night so effortlessly. My S30V knives are a pain in the neck to sharpen when they eventually dull.

On an unrelated note cant wait for December paycheck to add a Seal Team to the collection.

Ah yes, the Seal Team. Great utility knife. I call it my downstairs knife. It does everything from food prep to yard work. It gets the most use as an ice pick when the ice maker gets gummed up. And just to confirm the slight variations in production. My Seal Team says "Seal Knife". Go figure.

Nice to see a well used SOG Craytab. Cant wait to recieve my Seal. I cant bear to cut anything with the Pentagon as I have wanted one since I was a kid. Its a defensive knife primarily anyway. Need a Seal Team for the real bushcraft!

Despite a reduction in interst in the post Seki blades I hold high hopes for the rest of the Taiwan range after seeing first hand the quality of the pentagon. I personally haven't lost any love for the brand yet. Long live Sog.

(PS Can I be a SogDog yet?)
