I just received the seal pup njbillk sent me ( thank you bill )
And I'm liking it.
I love the faux parkerized finish on the blade,it's a good size for me to edc, and the steel sharpens up nicely ( I'd say in between 1095 and bucks 420hc )
I'm not usually a fan of finger grooves, but these are big enough that I can choke up on the handle without a problem.
The sheath seems nice and durable and I like how it can be Inserted lefty.

So far so good, I'll have more to say after I get some decent use in.
Hopefully the serrations don't get in the way.

The serrations certainly make it a poor woodcraft knife, but that's not what it was designed for .

I think it should prove to have a lot of merit as an edc utility blade.

I've had one of these knives for a while and it was my EDC knife for a long while until I got my benchmade AFO 2. That said, I tend to keep my sog nearby most of the time because it's a good knife all around and I carry a multitool in the pouch on the sheath

Glad you like it and that it will see some usage.

If you ever want to get rid of the serrations, ship it back over and I will grind them off and give you a straight edge or a more obtuse/stout edge section like on a "Tracker" styled knife.

Enjoy it and have fun!

The Seal Pup Elite was my standard woods knife (not hunting) for a number of years. I don't particularly like a partially serrated knife, so I have the plain edge. Now, I generally carry something different in the woods. IF I carry a fixed blade for an EDC, it is generally a Dozier Personal Wharncliffe or the larger regular Personal (K-6).

I love my PE pup elite. EDC it quite often.

I really like the Seal Pup a lot. I have a few of them as my back-ups and put them through a lot of use. The pricing ( at least here in Canada) has went up quite a bit , so I'm glad I got them years ago. They really should be well below $100. I've never had a fail of any sort with them and Aus8 is a good user steel.

Plain edge is more preferred , but my combo-edge ones have been good so far also. Great boating knife ,Imo. I've even done a fair bit of camp usage/bushcrafting with them and they did pretty well. Hope you get a lot of use from it.

So was the standard Taiwanese seal pup aus6 or aus8, I know the elite is currently aus8 and the standard is aus6, but what about before ?

I thought about putting my leatherman fuse in the front pouch, but the velcro is kinda annoying and I love the leather sheath that came with it.
I may find something to use it for though.

All the Taiwanese versions (elite and regular) are AUS8. The Original Pup was made in Seki Japan and is AUS6. Think of it as a where it is made thing. Taiwan is AUS8 and Seki is AUS6.

Thanks, I thought it seemed a little harder to sharpen than I what I expected from aus6.
( had no experience with either though )

Since I don't see myself using it, I tightly ranger banded the pouch down flat again at the sheath to eliminate bulk.
So far I think it's gonna be a good edc.

The previous owner of my PE satin elite removed the pouch. It is much less bulky now. I still prefer the kydex. With a few mods it can be made to have only a slight increase in form factor than the knife itself.

I bought a Seal Pup years ago (many moons before the sheath turned an all funky design).

It didnt cost much and was/is a very nice handling knife for its size/price. I quite like the Seal Pup and its a refreshing change from the bigger SOG bowies from which the Pup (presumably) was scaled down from. A nice companion to my much bigger SOG bowie IMO.

I've had mine for probably ten years, maybe more. It was a great knife, now its a beater for stupid tasks around the house. Chipping and breaking ice is its main use now, its been used and sharpened past the serrations. For camping and wood and stuff I use my BK5, sharpened by Jerry Fisk.

The looks are still a little funky to me, but it seems to have a good deal of utility to it.
It's only been a day so it's too soon to tell for sure though.

Yesterday I decided to try my leatherman fuse in the Front pouch and I like more than I thought I would. I tucked the flap in because the velcro is annoying, and it holds in pretty tight .

I noticed that the tip was dull so I decided to just sharpen the whole edge till the tip became sharp again ( took me quite a while though as I'm not used to aus8 yet , I may have been a bit hasty with my Initial assessment of sharpening )
It's not super noticeable, but I did mess up a tiny bit of coating at the tip on the left hand side.

All in all I was able to get a decent edge to it and it cuts pretty well. It seems to be a good lightweight edc fixed blade and I'm definitely keeping it.

If you use that thing the coating will go bye bye. It's okay, builds character.
