Did any one use sog seal strike is it good to buy that knife or simply go for seal pup
p.s i like the extended pommel on the strike but not the metal handel and drop point experts give suggestions

I havnt used the Strike but am not really a fan of the design. Seal Pup Elite in whatever edge and color you want is in my eyes up there with the Ka Bar Mk1 as all time all around best smaller fixed blades. There really isnt anything the Strike can do that a Pup Elite cannot in my opinion

I've used a seal pup out in the woods for the past 6 years as my belt knife and done everything from feather sticks to skinning, I've even thrown it into a tree a few times. I know it's not designed to be an outdoors knive but it's what I had at the time and it earned it's place, it sharpens up easy and holds an edge well. I got one of the Japan versions with the codora sheath(I think it's cadora, not kydex). I looked at the strike and the elite in the past few years and the price for what it is just didn't do it for me as an upgrade from the pup, for that price you can get a really good used KaBar, which I'm not a huge fan of, but I think are better than modern day SOG, for the price. That or for 30-50 bucks more get a Benchmade tactical knife. That said I love my pup and have no reason to upgrade it to a bigger size.

Seal Pup Elite juuuust a bit longer lol. The regular Pup with cordura sheath came from both japan and Taiwan. Ive got a Taiwan cordura pup. Possibly the sharpest out of the box fixed blade knife Ive ever seen quality did not decline from Seki to Taiwan. There are also the tweener Beckers which are damn near indestructible Ive got the 16 and 17 prefer the 17 to the point I had a custom horizontal fold over kydex sheath made for it and it is amazing.

Yeah OP do not overlook the Beckers!

pretty sure pup can do all the things strike can but when you want to break open some stuff like shells or need to use heavy blunt force while using seal pup what will you do? sometimes you can use back spine but for others extended pommel is best. The problem is i like the clip point of pup and extended pommel of strike:grumpy::mad:

can you please tell me what will you do if situation arise that you should use blunt force to break open stuff like in some case pommel is used besides using spine of the blade

The Seal strike looks down right uncomfortable to use with the ridiculous jimping. I would worry more about my knife being a functional knife before a hammer for crushing shells. With a good knife you could craft almost any sort of tool you would need. Can't do that if your thumb is bleeding from jimping.

I would take the pup all day every day, especially given the price difference.

I am not sure exactly how one is suppose to break open someting with a pommel. I have broken cans open with the spine side of the blade only. The only time I ever used a pommel was as a hammer to drive some tacks/nails into a tree. But then, I have done the same thing with the blade of my Seal Pup and a rock. I guess a pommel would be an additional impact point for knife combat. And it would be useful for breaking car windows for escape or rescue. I do not find the Seal Strike appealing, but then maybe it's because I'm old fashioned. My Aus6 Seki Pup and Aus8 straight edge Pup Elite are a proven design and serve me fine.

OR look into the Becker line look at the "tweeners" BK15,16 and 17. They come with outstanding sheaths, you can upgrade the scales to factory micarta and the ergonomics of these knives are fantastic! 1095 cro van steel though so gotta stay on top of keeping the edge clean and oiled. The have exposed pommels that can totally be used as a blunt force weapon/glass breaker. My favorite is the BK17 for the excellent clipped point

i second than the jimping is too agressive on strike

Yes you are right. But how often does one actually need a pommel?
I have knives that have pommels and not once have they ever been used.
But if you a pommel is a necesary requirement for you then you shouldn't be
considering the Seal Pup (and many other knives) at all.

ken the seal pup doesnt have pommel like team or strike

Yes, we know. You said that before and we already answered it. Here was what I said above:

But if you want the strike, get it and let us know how sharp that jimping is.

I like the Seal Pup with the plain edge. YMMV, the extended pommel on the Strike is a useless feature who primary purpose is to "look cool".

can you give me other options bk17 is out of range for me and some say it rusts

It is hard to recomend something when we don't know what is available to you or your budget. I would say if you can get a pup elite, it is a great knife.
