I am thinking about buying the slimjim, I have heard some negative and some positive reviews. Could someone else give me their opinion?

I don't own one nor have I held one. I was excited to get one when they first came out. But like you I have seen mixed reviews. I have also broadened my collection to other brands and don't think the value is there for many of the SOG folders. It seems pricey for what you get. If you are looking at the small slim jim an excellent alternative would be the CRKT Heiho.

The handle also seems uncomfortable. I'm curious what others who own the knife have to say.

I played with one and found the handle a little thin and sharp for my taste.

I had 2 of them. Too small for me. I found that it had deployment issues and locking issues. I sent it back to SOG, and mind you that their customer service was superb, but the knife.. Not so much. It had their new logo on it, and found that it was still having the same issues. I love the company, but that knife was just not my cup of tea..

Again, love the company.

I bought one brand new and it had two major issues. The first was that it wouldn't fully deploy 75% of the time. It would hit the final "hump" if you will and bounce back instead of pushing further and locking in place. Second problem was, that even with the safety engaged, the blade would deploy about an inch in your pocket! I reached in and put a nice cut on my thumb. I contacted SOG and they had me send it in for repair. They contacted me and said that they would just replace the knife with another SlimJim. They sent me a brand new one...this also had the exact same issues. I sent it in and swapped it out for an Aegis and never looked back. The SlimJim is a great idea, but a horrible execution.

Very well put.
