Hey guys,
We have had a lot of good action here on the SOG sub Forum lately so I figure I would continue that trend. Up for your enjoyment is a little overview of my latest SOG purchase: The Spec Elite II.
It is big. 5" blade of Japanese VG-10. Full steel liners. FRN (or what have you) handle. I like big folders and I cannot lie (think sir mix a lot).....This one is just ridiculous. Love it though. Haven't used it hard yet, just lite EDC. I bought it used off the bay for what I consider to be a fairly good price. It didn't come screaming sharp but 5 minutes on the ceramic rod made it hair popping. The slight recurve was no problem on an oval ceramic rod. There were a few problems. First and for most the edges on the plastic handle were sharp as hell! It was especially difficult around the cut out for the thumb stud. I had to take them off and sand them down. I also removed a little material from that thumb stud cut out to make it more comfortable as my index finger sit right in it (see pic). Second issue was slight up and down play. I was able to dial most of it out with adjustment but if you really pull on it there is some still there. For how smooth this thing is the play is extremely acceptable to me. This thing is buttery smooth not even considering the weight and length of the blade. I have had benchmades that aren't this smooth with more play in them.
All and all this seems like a great large folder. I will for sure be giving it regular EDC, mostly as self defense when carrying my Glock 26 might not be an option. It is nice to see SOG can still produce some nice stuff out of Seki! Now the pics! For size comparison I included a full sized Aegis and Spyderco Military.
