Hey guys, I saw this knife today and I really liked the size and smoothness. I realize it's not a practical knife by any means, but I still find myself interested in it. Do you guys think it's a waste of money as far as quality goes, or would you say it's a solid knife that'll hold up well. I've heard SOG knives can be kind of spotty as far as quality, so I needed some opinions. Thanks! :)

IMO I would get the Spec-Elite I. I would probably never carry the II because of weight, and pure size. 7.1 OZ and around 5.5+inches closed is something I know I wouldn't carry. And in my situations I can't think of anything a 5 inch blade could do that a 4 inch couldn't. And I feel better paying $90-100 over $120-130. But if you know that you'll carry it than go for it. I haven't had any problems with my SOGs. I think their quality is pretty good. Though I've only owned 2 SOGs (which I sold because of the AUS-8(AUS-8 isn't bad it's just I can't sharpen)) Their AUS-8 can get wicked sharp. I have no experiences with their VG-10 though.

That's right! I put parenthesis within parenthesis!

I know where you're coming from. I'd never carry it(at least not usually), but it's more of a novelty knife or for the woods if I just feel like carrying a big folder. Probably the biggest knife I would/have carried is the Spyderco Police, and that's only because it's so thin it doesn't get in the way.

And may I just say.........That you sir are a jerk....now I want a Spec elite I and it's all your fault. I swear, bladeforums is going to make me bankrupt.

I've had the Spec-elite II for several years . It's my favourite Sog folder and I find it's very easy to carry. If you like the knife [ and you should because it's very cool ] the weight and the size is a non-issue in my opinion.

I have one in the "bowie" shape. It is a really nice knife with a very smooth lock. I am not sure how it would hold up to abuse, but I would venture to guess that it would hold up just as well as the Benchmade axis lock. The size wasnt too bad since the knife is relatively thin. I guess relative to Strider GB's. If you love large folders, you wont be upset with this one.

I own one, my only issue is that the handle feels a bit flimsy. IMO it could do with solider liners inside the Zytel scales.

I thought it had steel liners in there? I am going from memory since the knife is not within my reach.
