few days ago, a brand new SOG Vulcan arrived at my work as a replacement of my 3 year old flash-II tanto. when i first opened the package and held the blade in my hand, oh man was it a big step up from the toyish flash. it's got an awesome fat grip to it. i use it to cut up some card board right the way and it was noticeably not as sharp as my old flash when fresh out of the box. not a big deal, i could always put a better angle to the edge. i was too used to the assist open with the flash, opening the Vulcan quickly takes some time getting used to.it's not the easiest blade to swing open with and i still prefer the assist opening over swing open because it's much quicker when im focusing on my work-often in weird positions. i do like the new locking system . it locks the blade up very well and the action is very smooth and solid. i guess it's a trade off for not having an assist open . one problem i had with the lock on the flash was when dust and dirt trapped in the locking/opening mechanism . with the Arc-lock, it doesnt look like dirt would trap in there and i like how you could unlock the blade on both side of the handle.that's a plus for lefties.

im just gonna put up some pros and cons before this gets too long.

i like:
-the grip
-the arc lock
-over all looks. it's just so bad ass.
-the switchable clip which adds to the good looks. (unlike other brands where the clip is usually held by 2-3 screws on the side of the blade that just looks cheap and doesn't feel like a well thought out design.)
-the VG10, san mai blade. not sure if adding flexibility to a blade this short would do anything but it's an unique cool feature

i don't like:
-the thump rise could build father up forward to the spine. i found it hard to put any force to the thump rise when i tried to cut hard material . i ended up pressing at the spine .my hand is average med-large.
-not the sharpest knife out of the box.
-the line where the 2 different steel meets is not as nice as the pictures on sog's website. it's more like the straight line unlike the picture below

edit:when the knife is in closed position, it rest on the lock and not the handle like i first stated. there for , another point for this beautiful knife
