Alrighty, scout, here's your new go-to in go-time. The Para Bellum is a redesign of a knife we made back in 2009 for an Army buddy seeking an ideal deployment blade. He wanted a tool substantial enough to whack the snout off a hellhound, but compact enough to not bulk up his loadout and with a blade profile suited to peace-time practicalities (para pacem) as well as for war (para bellum). Our design turned out to be, basically, a take on the Filipino bolo knife, a classic trailblazing and hand-to-hand fighting knife with a broad, weighted tip.
Our updated version of this classic cutter features a 12-inch blade of 5160 steel that tips the scales at just under 1.5 pounds, balanced to feel fluid in the hand with a slight forward weighting that delivers a chomping big bite. It works small diameter tree limbs with ease, making it fit for shelter construction and fire-side work in the woods. See for yourself in a video by bushcrafter Chris Tanner at Prepared Minds 101
The Para Bellum rides on the hip in a Kydex drop sheath that straps to the leg, ready to faithfully follow you into whatever shitshow you have the ticket for.
