Sirs, found this knife and sheath at the swap meet today. Appears vintage . I thought it was too
cool to pass on. I could not locate any maker
logo anywhere on the knife or sheath. Very nice patina on the horn handle. Reference to “Western Germany” on the sheath probably narrows
the born on dating range. Have not decided what (other than sharpening) I want to do with this knife. Seller knew nothing of the blade history. If any here can share possible maker I would appreciate the information. I gave $8.

Nice find. In the 4th pic there appears to be some kind of writing on the ricasso, but I can't quite make it out.

Thanks … I’ll look under a
magnifier to see if I spot any
Logo.
Further interrogation of the
Internet … could this possibly
Be made for “ Compass” (importer) in
Solingen ? Similar in appearance
And style.

Winger maybe....as in Anton Winger.....

For 8 bux you did great...but
"western " germany ?? Where is that on the sheath?

See photo “8 of 9” for Solingen
above Western Germany.

So, 1949-1990….. based on appearance
Probably earlier in that date range.

Puma made (still does) a similar blade.

Whatever is above the "Western Germany" ends with "GER" ... maybe "NGER". I can't make out the rest of that word,.

Congrats! A great find and score for $8. 😊👍

Sirs…. After careful re-examination (
apologies for the lousy Apple IPhone
images) I’m reasonably confident the
sheath imprint is “Solingen” above
“Western Germany” … and , as pointed
out , a case can be made for the
partial imprint of “ Wingen” on the blade.
I’ve opted for a light clean-up, lube, and
sharpening.
This will be added to the “keeper” wing
of the collection. Thank you to all who have
offered opinions. Mr. Wingen Jr.’s history
made for an interesting read.

Anton Wingen Jr. Solingen.
Also the brand name Othello.

That blade shape is what the Solingen manufacturers called the Buffalo Skinner, these also came in the 13 inch size as well!

Pretty neat. I think all those German knife makers were either in cahoots or got their blanks from the same place. They all are similar in construction, sheaths the same, and same styles.
