Hi guys,

Had watched season one of SoA a long time ago. Recently been going through some of season 2 in time off.

These guys spend a lot of time in the hospital. Even if you don't watch the show that's okay, all you need to know is they like big fixed blades and seem to wear them very openly even in their hospital visits.

With my disability I've been to hospitals a lot but never worn a big fixed blade like that. I know this is a TV show and not reality, and I know they are a motorcycle gang with a lot of pull in their town, it just still seems odd no one at the hospital makes a fuss, these big bikers and their big blades. ;)

I have sometimes carried a knife where I probably shouldn't, but not a big open one like that.

I guess I'm interested in your take on this scenario in particular but also, have you ever carried a nice big fixed knife into a place where one might think twice, and still no one bats an eye? I am curious. Thanks guys.

Again, I understand it is TV, it just caused me to pause for thought. Some cool-looking knives though, I like the looks of the one carried by the Tig Treager character.

In California you can't walk in to city/county/state funded buildings with a knife if I'm not mistaken, so I'm guessing the hospitals on Sons of Anarchy are privately owned hospitals. LOL

the last time I was at the DMV office in Sacramento CA there was a biker dude in there with a big bowie knife hanging off his belt and the security didn't even say anything about it, I figured certain knives were not allowed at the DMV because it's a facility funded by the county or state?

I've been in hospitals a lot lately. I may bring a SAK but not much more than that. Today I had my small sebenza on me, but at the last minute I left it home. The ER has 2 or 3 police and metal detectors at the entrances. But the other parts of the hospital just have security walking around no metal detectors. I just don't feel like being hassled really.

I ride a Harley daily and usually carry my BK2 openly in a kydex sheath. I have never been questioned or hassled about it ever. And yeah, I guess you could say I "look" like a biker.... Lmao!

I watch SOA religiously. Doesn't everybody?! The shirt I'm wearing today says "I'd rather be watching sons of anarchy".... Anyhow, I noticed they carry kabars and nobody says anything. In my experience it's been the same. I've been in plenty of hospitals with my BK2 flapping against my hip. Not a stare, not a word spoken about it.

Good story Ant, and good to know.

Getting back in SoA now, probably because I'm all out of Justified, and on Amazon Prime there are now several seasons of SoA to watch I haven't seen yet. That's always nice. ;)

I've never yet seen Tig Treager (Kim Coates) take out his knife yet but I'm only on season 2. That said, his knife looks really cool for some reason.

Also remember that the "sons" get away with stuff in Charming, because of a subtle agreement with the city and PD, that if left alone, they keep drugs out of Charming.

I've been in and out of almost every city hall from LA to San Diego and the only departments that will hassle you is the Courtroom buildings. They're the only ones with metal detectors and security to check you. (one time they made me put a 1"x3"x0.125" titanium sample back in my car. It's just a metal rectangle, safety first in the court buildings *shrug*)
Otherwise it's normal police doing their business. A lot of construction/engineer types walking around with tools on their belt. I've had my knife with me at the counters plenty of times.
No experience with hospitals though.

Schools and courtrooms are the only place that care if you have a fixed blade dangling unless you get some dick security or cop at a hospital

I can't remember if it is Tig or Happy, but I believe one or both of them carry CS magnum tantos.

I work at a hospital, for our facility (YMMV) it is posted on every door that the hospital is a "weapons free zone" including firearms and knives, the fine is $250 and 6 months in jail, worked there part time for 15 years and never saw the need to enforce it.

I've watched SOA from day one. Lot of cool knife scenes. I could name so many examples but don't want to spoil it for anyone!

Tig and Opie have at times, with Opie switching to a Buck 110 sometimes.

You're right Chris, I saw him pull one out to
put the SoA tag on the Mayan they killed in retaliation.

Tig's knife does look like a CS tanto I just haven't seen him use it yet. Really excited to see more knives as the seasons progress.

Speaking of the Buck 110, I also like the series "Longmire." The title character often very prominently uses a Buck 110 for lots of things, it's pretty neat. Other knives pop up in the show including I think a Byrd Cara Cara (ha, sort of connects to SoA ;) and a black Griptilian.

Edit: Apparently there isn't a spoiler option or I'm doing it wrong, sorry guys. I didn't give anything important related to this event away though.

I won't post any spoilers for those who haven't seen it... Just wanted to say - how bout that weapon used by that character who shall remain anonymous on that last episode?! Holy shite!

Haha dang it, it's gonna be awhile before I get there. ;) But that's okay with me, lots of goodness ahead. ;)

I love SoA. Just finished season 4 and I won't give any spoilers but the show just gets better and better every season. Since I started watching it I've been wanting a fixed blade. Lol

Oh yeah! Take your time and enjoy it! I've never seen one episode that didn't have something to offer! Let me just put it this way.... If you watch all the episodes and build up to the season finale from last year - it . will . blow . you . away! Absolutely unbelievably shockingly awesome!

A lot of hospitals here have signs posted, no knives with over 2 and a half inches blade length. They don't check you when you enter, so long as you keep it concealed they won't know what you have anyway.
