PLeeeeeasee Help.

I found it. LOL It was Jantz.
I am just getting started in the knife grinding world. What type of steel would you recommend to start with? I dont want a difficult steel to work with to start out with, but I dont want to have a poor quality blade in the end.( just in case I do it right and it gets to the point were I can mount some scales on it.
I plan to send out the blades to be HT. I am not yet set up to do it in shop....yet.

If your sending the blades out for heat treat then the sky is the limit for alloy. but start with something simple like O1, 1095, 1084 exc. if your attempting the heat treat your self i would stick to 1084 and see how that goes and then work your way up to other steels.
I just did these blades for a cuustomer, thy are 1095. So if you need any heat treating in the future let me know.

Google Alpha Knife Supply. All their Steel comes scale free at .01 of stated thickness. They also have precision ground at .001. They ship fast, are very competitive and will spend time on the phone helping you decide. I am relatively new at this also and have great relationships with many suppliers. But AKS gets all my metal business. I know that I sound like an employee but the last batch of ABE-L was fantastic.

JT do you have one of those fancy wheel grinders capable of flat grinding the tang after you do HT? What would that cost?
