Where are all the cool kids buying their carbide-faced file-guides these days? Are there any sources other than riversidemachine.com?

Erin

I believe K&G has file guides. Not carbide faced just hardened steel I think. I've had one from Riverside for years, works great.

Make your own out of aluminum block. Gang mill two blocks square, drill and ream for two hardened pins so one side is press fit and one side slides. Then next to the pins drill and tap for bolts. The threaded side is same as the press fit side. MSC sells the carbide blanks for under $20. Mill the block to allow about .015 of the carbide to be proud and set back about same where the blocks clamp together. You don't want the carbide to clamp down on your blade. Use JB weld to set the carbide in place. I rubbed the face of the carbide on a diamond stone to get it really flat. The carbide I recieved had some high and low spots.

I contemplated Uncle Al's file guide but did not want to shell out $125 for a guide. Three file guides later all fairly nice, I finally bit the bullet and purchased one from Uncle Al's. Let me tell you......You will NOT find a better file guide anywhere! I have run mine along 50 grit belts full speed on my KMG and the carbide faces do not even have a scratch let alone wear! It is made for a lifetime of use.

I have one that was made by BFinnigan on these forums. IIRC it is S7 untempered and is near as hard as a file. It is spring loaded and has guide pins. Only $41. Once again IIRC. I've slept since then. There are NO carbide inserts!!

I'd like to get one from Riverside machine, but as soon as you inform about international shipment, they stop replying Emails.
Apparently they make to much money to appreciate business.

I wouldn't be so terribly quick to jump on that bandwagon.

shipping to some countries in Europe involve some pretty hefty paperwork, duties, taxes, customs, etc.

I know it can suck not having that same easy access but looking at it from a suppliers perspective there is a LOT of liability when you start talking about shipping across borders.

Stephan I ship to the states all the time and recieve a pile of stuff from all over. I havent shipped to europe but it cant be that bad but what would I know right. lol
