I just got this in a trade and I've wanted one for a while. I had no real idea of the size and useability till I had it in hand.
It is a goodly size and will fit in a pack. It is ~ 7 3/4(20cm) wide x 10 (25cm) high.
It will NOT fit in a Fatboy.
Only one negative, for me, is that it does not open flat. Probably for structural strength. It seems bomb proof. :)
Here it is next to a Maxpedition Condor

The front has a mesh pouch ~ 5 3/4 inch or 14 cm deep fastened by a velcro patch in the center. I can fit my beefy hand inside :) There are two military quiet zippers on the main pouch.

The rear pocket is about the same size as the mesh with no fastening. Just a slash pocket. Here it has a Blockbuster DVD holder inside for reference. You can see that the top has a carry handle and two D rings to attach a strap. There was no strap with this piece.

Inside is a bright yellow nylon that makes it easy to find stuff. There are two large pockets on the walls. Same size as the outer pockets. One has a velcro strap as a hold down.
There are plenty of pockets for all sorts of things and a clear window pocket that fits business cards well. There is a key leash with nylon clip that is permanently attached to the wall. The leash is 10 1/2 (26.5cm)long.
All together eleven pockets inside and two outside.

curious... will a Glock 23 and two extra mags fit comfortably inside without taking up all the room?
Thanks!

i have a pack rat, great item, great review also, good pics too, mine is black though.

as far as the glock imho its a little too small for a glock 23 or 27, while it will fit it is just almost too big, esp. if ya already have a bunch of stuff in the thing, my 33 and an extra mag will fit though FWIW. i usually carry my small REI backpack with the pack rat inside, and the glock/kahr in the pack vs in the pack rat, unless its on my belt anyway.

great item though if ya have a pack w/a lot of little stuff in it like most of us do, it replaced 3-4 smaller 1 item containers.

oh i see now ya have the S&W in the back flap part, i keep wallet/credit card case in there, w/a smaller pistol that would work though, i have never really thought about keeping my pistol in the thing, good idea my kahr PM9 fits well, but were to put the wallet now lol??

Always a puzzle about where to put stuff
hahahaha

The Pack rat would make a nice standalone carry too!
But you'ld have to have the right strap so it doesn't cut/chafe the neck.

Someone told me that he uses the Rat Pack turned inside out, when he has it in a pack. This way he has access to the pockets at all times. I haven't tried this tho.
Would seem to work well if it's a sling bag type carry.

Do the internal pockets have fasteners? It doesn't appear so in the photos. I would be worried that many items would slide out of the pockets while moving the bag around. I have experienced that with some of the OR products.

Dizos, Nope no fasteners cept the one you see. It is possible and likely that stuff can fall out depending on how full/empty the pack is and upside down.

Tom, based on your pics and review, I went ahead and got one... and I use it inside out in my daybag with a G27 and extra mags... It'll fit my G23, too, with no problems.
I also find it functions adequately inside out, so I can carry other stuff in the now roomy center pocket...

Good stuff! My thanks!

TOB9595,

Just wanted to mention that I've seen several threads now where you took the time to post some good pics. I appreciate that, since it shows things that we otherwise miss in the commercial pics on web sites. Thanks.

I'm glad they're informative.
In my neck of the woods we don't get to handle stuff like this before we buy so I enjoy reviews folk post with their experiences and PICS
I just love pics.

Thanks
Tom
