I saw pics of Special Forces Operators in Afghanistan the other day and I was wondering what kind of boots they wore in the mountains. I could discern the regular desert boots, but what else did the show up in to knock out the taliban an aq´s ?

Don´t worry i wont run thru germany as a spec op impersonator.;-)

Why not? As long as you're not carrying a deadly assault rifle, who would care? :D

For the most part, there is no standardized footwear. Boots made by Bates, Corcoran, Altima (my fav. after Corcoran Jump boots), Danner, Rocky among others all supply boots for the U.S. Army. Hey Matt, get yourself some adidas gsg9 boots and some black bdu's and then you can be super cool! ;)

Are those the special boots that allow you to climb up walls? ;)

Meindl are carried by different SWAT teams thru Europe, the GSG9 boots are no longer used by the German GSG9 teams. I had them , they where like tactical sneakers, but after snapping my foot ligaments during a riot i wanted something with more support. The soles of the GSG9 boots are great but they wear down FAST. The Meindl are used by the Dutch AT and special forces, the German gebirgsjäger, and federal teams from Austria. They give a lot of ankle support, especially when jumping, airborne deployments. They are ideal for Afghanistan in the Fall/winter, but i think they will get too hot when used in Afrika. They are insulated with Goretex , and are top quality!

Remember to purchase B/C class shoes when u intend to use them in uneven or hill/mountain terrain. A/B is great for urban inviroments, but if u are gonna walk/run over uneven terrain go for B/C. Don't go higher then C, because the boots will get to stiff to use on flat terrain. U defenitly want good insulated boots for Afghanistan, or Germany in this time a year!
