The axe style in this video is a Team specific design for NSW. (1 of 4 with a 5th in the works) This is a milled tang style rather than the skeletonized, tapered version of the WK II Combat and Sayoc/Winkler axes. Physically speaking it is probably not as durable as the full tapered version but practically speaking these and other similar designs have been used hard in the field for several years and so far I have had no failures. The milled tang also makes for a lighter weight overall. I understand they are used for combat, breeching and intimidation.
They are less expensive. The reason is we make these at close to breakeven cost because of who they are made for. I make a little money on the Sayoc and WK II axes which helps being able to get these to the guy’s in the field. By the way, I give a 30% discount to active Military and LE on all the Winkler Knives II products. It helps get the right tools in their hands.
Can the public buy this or one of the other Team designs? No, with an exception. The way we get these Team axes to the guy’s is through a Donor Program I set up with permission from Naval Special Warfare and Army Special Operations Command. We have provided lot’s (can’t say how many but a lot) to these Team members at no cost through private donations. The donation to provide 1 axe and carrier to an active duty Team member is $350. The Donors name and contact information is put on a laminated card and attached to the axe so the guy that gets it knows who made it possible. As a Program Donor you have the option to buy 1 axe for the same $350 for yourself. If you want all 4 for your collection you make 4 donations then buy all 4 axes. However no matter how many donations you make you can only buy 1 of each design. To get an axe like the one in the video it will cost you $700 for 2 axes, one for you and one for the Team guy’s. Or you can join the Navy, qualify for SEAL training, make it through BUDs and be selected for a special anti-terrorist Team.
This is an ongoing program and we are constantly supplying new Team members so help out if you can. I can’t post the full information on a public forum but if anyone is interested send me an email including your name and address and I will send you full program information.
