They don't make them like this anymore....
This axe appears to be kind of a transition piece manufactured as follows: "There was a period of time (1985-1990) when USM /Emhart Group owned True Temper, and perhaps they contracted with Mann (owner of Collins at the time) to make axes (some of which were relabeled by Mann and shipped as Collins)? This was not long after the Kelly Works axe factory closed..."
The single bit is in XF condition....differential heat treat zone is evident...Kind of a sweet Yankee pattern. Very little impact damage Original forge grinds very evident. As found - all I did was strop the edge a little and clean up the poll a little...nice old piece of history. This head is max hi-carbon...This old girl is ready to take down some tall timber...don't run you finger over the edge....No disappointments on this one
