I have always wanted to make a club with spikes. I picture something like a heavy ended baseball bat with several very sharp triangular spikes imbeded around it. Does any one have any ideas or even pictures of what I am describing.:D
Thanks for any input!

From an article I wrote for my blog last year. . .

A recurring urban combat weapon in Wu-Tang Clan lyrics is the spiked bat. Paired with the fabled bludgeoning power of a normal bat, steel spikes add an additional aspect of lethality that send a clear message - do not mess with the guy wielding the spiked bat.

The spiked bat has also taken on a secondary meaning as part of a metaphor for hardcore hip-hop among some of my musically inclined friends. So much so, in fact, that it is difficult to hear something like Brooklyn Zoo or Triumph without picturing myself in a goose bomber, lumbering through a cramped hallway or under a bridge, and lugging a spiked bat - a scene reminiscent of many early Wu videos.

My dad returned from a business trip to Louisville with a personalized Louisville Slugger for me. This was a very cool gift that has now taken on another dimension, as the basis for a real Wu-Tang spiked bat.

i think you ruined a perfectly good bat. and as to the original post. are you a smith and do you have access to a forge?

Hey pesky human, Thanks for the pics, that bat is very cool and inspirational.
Thanks

Yeah, well I don't play baseball.

I will call the waaaambulance.

Seriously?

Sorry you guys don't get it. It's awesome. When people come into my studio, they gravitate towards it, pick it up, and try not to hurt themselves or others with it. Then they ask how they can get one.

Then again, you have to take into account the kind of miscreants, felons, and psychopaths that tend to frequent my area. I guess it makes sense.

My people are a lot of fun though.

wow......that's pretty darn cool. Totally. I bet nobody messes with you even though you live in the midst of miscreants, felons, and psychopaths.

Hey Tony, first thing I thought of was the fight scene from Escape From New York. Gotta watch this scene to just about the end... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U2wtkCjawA

You mean a morning star:

Or a war club:

??

Either way, pretty cool.

Doing that to an actual Louisville Slugger, much less a personalized one, is not.

i think the intention behind a weapon like the one you are describing is much more for blunt trauma and tearing flesh rather than puncturing anything. notice the two examples from cpl had relatively short, stubby spikes. albeit sharp but not likely to puncture or break off. i think a mild steel band with holes punched in it at intervals with nails that fit the holes would do well. heat the band and wrap it around the club with the nail heads in, locking them in place. now pin the ends or weld them if you are able. that would do the trick and be relatively inexpensive i would imagine??

i think that if you made your bat or club then counter sunk some coarse threaded holes then took some large blots with the same thread and cut them off about 5" above the threads then ground the type of tip you like then epoxyed them in the theaded holes you would have one hell of a weapon.i agree that the spikes shouldn't be to long, about 2"-3"but wicked sharp and stout. the bat would have to be plenty stout also.:D
the spikes should probably be long enough to penetrate the brain as needed!:D
