Sporks: why the attraction?

I've been an avid member of BF for a while now, and I recently got into flashlights and EDC-related 'issues' in general. I keep seeing sporks, especially fancy titanium sporks, mentioned in the various forums, especially an EDC-related forum (hint) I just joined last month.

My question is -- what are sporks so attractive? I don't brown bag my lunches, so I guess the fact I don't need utensils away from home might be why the utility of sporks escapes me. I don't camp much anymore, but even when I did in my younger days, I didn't mind using a separate fork and spoon.

So, I guess my questions are: (1) Why are sporks more attractive than simply using a fork and spoon, and (2) if you own a spork, how frequently do you use it and where?

I don't use mine for anything but outdoor activies and it is great for that. One less thing to bring in my pack and it has a pretty high cool factor, IMO.

:barf: Back when I used to eat at taco bell almost every day, they were the ideal tool for eating their pintos and cheese(refried beans, cheese, and sauce in a little cup/bowl thing). I've sorta loved them ever since then.

The spork is a very handy and light weight tool for hiking and even for EDC! It’s a fork, a spoon and a butter knife. Next to any knife it is you total kitchen appliance packet in one.

I love my spork form light-my-fire. Very easy to clean in the field, boiling water save, flexible and can be put in the dishwasher at home!

Honestly, there's no need to get one of those fancy ti ones other than gear-queerness. I have a lexan Foon. Really inexpensive, very lightweight and it comes with an integral snap hook. It's just too convenient to not put one in your BOB/camping gear.

Anyone who doubts the value of a good spork needs to read Colonel Rex Applegate's Manual of SAS Spork Combat.

What attraction?

Sporks are poor utensils. They make neither good forks nor good spoons.

I carry the real deals, just shorter in length.

does anybody make a double-ended spoon/fork combo?

I like sporks...but then again, I rarely eat soups (the only advantage I can see a spoon having over a spork).

I have two Snowpeak titanium sporks. I use them most of the time as my regular utensils at home, unless a spoon is clearly preferable. I find they work as well as any fork and practically as well as a spoon. Except for ice cream.

The Foon is interesting, Lexan is good, but I'd rather have a Ti Foon.

I also carry titanium chopsticks. I LIKE TITANIUM !!! IS THAT OK ??? :D

Dude, you obviously just don't get the El Camino.

County comm's Super Spork is pretty handy.

I don't get the added utility of the folding Ti spork TADgear is currently hawking.

I think Maximus Otter has it pretty well figured out, but I admit I got one with my backpacking gear, & it is light. :D

The ti spork is light, compact, slips in your gear anywhere, washes off quickly and throughly. The super spork leaves me wondering how to use one end while the other still has food on it. :)
