ok so in a spring assisted knife is there any way to fix it if the spring goes out? or do you just get a new one? and how long does it usually take for a spring to go out if you use it every day? thanks guys.

Depends on how you store it and how you fire it.

Usually they (Kershaw's) last a few months to a few years on the larger models and can be replaced every few times you open it. I clean my knife (Kershaw Needs Work) once a month and will usually replace the bars every 3 months.

If you really whip the blade out opening it you will stress the heck outta the torsion bars and everything else. (My ZT300 will snap brand new torsion bars if you open it the wrong way)

If you store it with the blade open  (Ya ya ya, I know) the torsion bar (Or springs) will have no tension on them, closed they are bent and have pressure on them the whole time. (Which will bend them)

I store my assisted knives like this.

I've only ever had to replace 1 torsion bar on a kershaw(own about 20)and that one was broken when I bought it. I store all mine closed and enjoy firing them opens as fast as possible. There was a thread a couple months back where a member tested a leek to see how many times he could open it till the torsion bar broke and I think it was over 15,000 times.

Kershaw will send you all the parts you need to replace your torsion bar/spring if it breaks (for free). If you're comfortable taking apart your knife and putting it back together you can do it yourself. Otherwise you can send it to them and they'll fix it (you pay shipping there, they handle the return).
