Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2010 Report - Prototype Pictures

I've never cared for the Para but seeing the new one I'm in love.

I'm not sure what attracts me to the para so much, love it in any case. If you haven't handled one, it is worth the time. They are so light and agile, feels like a really precise tool. Natural extension of the hand/arm maybe? Hopefully we can start preordering some of these soon.

As soon as the new models are available, I'll be ordering one.

I am curious about the clear FRN Manix 2. Since FRN is Fiber Reinforced Nylon and very few fibers I know of are crystal clear, is it something other than FRN? Just wondering.

Lol. Definitely a cool feature. They've made some really good changes to the knife.

Anyone know how long the knife has been out? EDIT: If http://www.spydie.nl/history.html is correct, it was 2004. However, the military came out 8 years before that in 1996.

The para military was the knife that really got me into knives, makes the second version that much better.

yeah my D2 para is one i plan on keeping for a very long time...and thats special cause im constantly trading stuff...and the para 2 is going to be great:D

The fibers are glass, and if the refractive index of the polymer is the same as glass, they wouldn't show up.

on the other hand, it might not be fiber reinforced. Some gun makers have made frames out of clear polymers as promotional/advertizing items, but they couldn't take more than a handful of shots because the clear polymer is weaker than the opaque nylon they usually use.

From the Lums it’s a small step to the successor of the Super Hawk, the Super Leaf. Now this knife may look a bit clunky and boxy, but the grip and balance is just right. This was one sweet handling folder. Don’t change a thing, I’ll take it as is. It’s kind of like an improved original large Manix. The edges on the handle are nice and rounded. The construction looked pretty good; thick blade, compression lock, thick liners and thick G10 slabs. It looked like a tough folder, but it was a lightweight in the hand.

I kind of hope that a serrated version will be made. It is possible. The Super Leaf was made because of customer requests when they saw the Super Hawk, which in turn was made because of customer requests on the forums…

available in both PS and SE? maybe

Ladies and gentlemen, if this thing has a blade between 3.5 to 4 inches we may just have witnessed the creation of the perfect knife.

Anybody know the blade length? It looks to be about 3.5, but it's hard to tell in pix for sure.

That PPT is awesome!! It seems perfect for me and what I like carrying. I also expect it not to be too expensive since it is made in taiwan, hopefully around the Sage 1 price range

The Balance and the CF Chinese are must haves for me - always like the Chinese blade shape but not the coated Al scales, and the CF Balance just looks like the perfect small knife. And the maroon Shabaria too - had a original Shabby I've always regretted selling. A very non-intimidating big knife, plus cooler now in maroon. Also, did anyone catch the blade length on the Breeden? Looks like around 3.25 or so.
Wow.
Greg

PS - GREAT job, Wouter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

IIRC the bladelength of the SUperleaf prototype was indeed around 3.5".

Technically the FRN Slipit is not a prototype, since it's in the distribution pipeline. The other two are prototype slipits.
