Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2018 Report

It's Christmas!! Thanks for everything Mr. Blonde! Can't wait for the rest of the week...and that Sabatoge!!! Wow!

I think it must be increasingly difficult to redesign the wheel again and again. I do like the looks of the Sabotage, but how many stylistic derivations of the basic folding knife design are left? I don't envy the task.
I agree. Spyderco seems to be just about the only one of the major knife companies consistently doing it.

I think Sypderco's magic is that they collaborate with so many different designers and knife makers around the world along with their in house design.

For sure you'll get polarizing results from that but I think that's good.

“I can’t stand it, I know they planned, I’m telling y’all, it a sabotage…”, and I’ll stop paraphrasing the three MC’s (and one DJ) from New York now. This knife was designed by Nati Amor and he calls it the Sabotage. It’s a big, solid and hefty folder which handles very nicely. The action was very smooth, Eric warned people to not get cut with this knife because of the smooth closing action.

I've always wanted a black snow custom... Finally one that will be in my price range!

There's a disturbing lack of Paysans in this thread. Was it not displayed at the show?

Seriously tho. I can't stop looking at that sabotage. Huge and orange and not super practical for me, but man do I want it.
Wonder what steel will be used?
Work knife = M4.

The GB1 was dubbed a "work knife" and it has M4. Sound logic in my (M4 loving) mind.

Mr. Blonde, thank you for the thread and documentation.

I don't know about it being a "work knife". It's solid enough I guess. Seems a little fancy tho.
I love M4, but I think I'd rather a stainless in this.
Xhp would work for me.

XHP would be fine for me too! When can I get the Sabotage already hahaha

The Sabotage definitely makes my wish list! That partial orange back spacer is awesome! Steel doesn't matter much to me, I want one of those in.... whatever it comes in.:)

Thanks Mr Blonde. That Bowie is killing me...........

I don’t need another knife.

Wow! Thanks again for this thread, Mr. Blonde! Is it weird that I want this week to go by quickly just so we can see more blades??

Jerry Brouwer is a Dutch knife designer that has also been a regular at the Amsterdam Meets. I think it’s extremely cool to finally be able to share images of his Spyderco collaboration. As has been mentioned before about this design, it does handle like a very nice allround EDC. If you like the Native, Sage and Chaparral designs, you’ll probably appreciate this Brouwer folder, it seems to bridge them all.

I’ve heard that the name Amalgam refers to makers that influenced themes on the design. However, personally, I also see an ‘amalgam’ of Americanized Tanto and drop point. It is not a small folder, but still very thin and very lightweight. Flipping compression locks certainly seem to be a nice combination for Spyderco this year. Do check out Brian’s own thread on his cool design on the Spyderco Forums: http://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=77599
