This knife has me intrigued but I haven't been able to find out a lot about it. Being fairly new to this addiction and a HUGE Spydy fan, the 3.875 VG10 fixed blade with the $80 (delivered) price tag has my attention. It also seems like it would be a decent EDC vertically on the belt.

I was wondering what the general opinion was on this Spyderco and hopefully personal experiences? I just added a Sage 1 last week and it only made me want to get another but I'm sure guys can relate to this. Thanks in advance guys.

I too have looked at this knife intently for the last few years. Never having actually bought it yet. I want to buy it, but something else always catches my eye at the last minute. I don't know that I would carry that knife vertically, but horizontally in a cross draw sheath of sorts.

The Spyderco Moran was one of those knives that I never really cared for the looks of. The blade profile I was attracted to, it was the oddly contoured rubber-like handle that I didn't care for. Then while looking for a new hunting knife I came across a bargain priced Moran user and gave it a try. The first time I used it the handle design made sense to me. It is grippy even when wet and fits nicely inside the palm of the hand giving it that rare extension of your hand feel. It is extremely well balanced and the .125" thick FFG blade slices like a dream. It has become one of my favorite production hunting knives but makes a fine EDC knife as well and is a very good value.

I'm not crazy about the "adult novelty" like handle, nor the blade profile itself. Sure, it will probably make a good hunting knife, but for an EDC, save up for a Street Beat.

Great knife, I have used it for field dressing deer. Perfect size & weight, blade holds a very good edge. Comfortable handle. You will not be disappointed with a Moran.

I don't have a need for it, but it's a classic. IIIRC it's the only authorized Moran production collaboration, spyderco's first fixed blade and an perrenial favorite of outdoorsman all over. It's been continuosly on the market longer than any other spyderco collaboration because it's highly functional. All they've changed is the sheath, which was leather for the first year or so.

I had one before and really liked it. Mine was before they put the little hole in the blade. I only sold it because I had too many fixed blades. I too found the handle very comfortable.

Negative on the Street Beat. I don't like the price or the design. I would go a different route if I was to put $300 in a fixed blade, probably BHK but thanks for the suggestion.

I have got both drop point and upswept. They are great and for the great price! I particularly like the upswept one.

I have the upswept point and I love it. I agree that if your looking for a EDC fixed blade get a street beat but for a hunting knife it would excel.

I don't see the Street Beat anywhere for $300. You must be looking at a skewed eBay dealer or someone that is severely optimistic and doesn't know what they have is commonly available for around $150ish. While it is not for everyone, Fred Perrin does know quite a lot about designing knives and makes darn good ones.

I see now, I must of saw MSRP or something. I see them on Amazon now for $142. If I were to drop that much, I would either go the BHK route or spend a little more on the Spydy Bushcraft model which looks amazing. I like the blade design but the handle is a hang up on the Street Beat.

One reason I was drawn to the Moran was the VG-10 blade and the price.

For the asking price it would make a great utility and all around knife. I kinda have some love for the Street Beat though. :)

It is worth every penny.

Hard to beat the Moran as an all around 'Knife' ~~ the Handle feels like it is made to fit just your hand only.! I have 2 of them -- one a Safe Queen and one I have used and used and it still takes a beating -- I thank Sal for that.!!**^

I bought the upswept model a few years back at a gun show, I got a really good deal on it. So far, I've got no complaints. It's a great lightweight knife, with a very convenient sheath. I've used mine hunting, hiking, horseback riding, working at the ranch. I've been meaning to pick up the drop point model, too.

I'm definitely getting this knife. Every time I set out to get a PM2 I always find something else I want instead. I got a ZT 0350ts the first time I set out to get a PM2, most recently a Sage 1, and now this fixed blade. I swear I'll get the PM2 next time. :o

I just saw a review that said this knife doesn't have a full tang, I will probably pass on it if this is the case. I would like a quality fixed blade knife with VG-10 steel, full tang, and about 3.5-4 inch blade. I might end up springing for the F1 but the I despise the sheath.
