Hi guys!

Looking at the Civilian... Very interesting knife. Hoping for some real world insights.

i.e... If you have one, how do you like it? And what do you [actually] use it for? :-)

Thanks!
Dan

I EDC'd the Civi for a few years after I mostly got out of collecting (it's a struggle). I kept it mostly for its cultural significance as an iconic knife, but being one of the classic Spyderco designs means it's also just a good knife. Great ergonomics and the full SE Spyderedge cuts really well.
Be aware that if you use it for utility purposes the tip will probably break. The one I bought many moons ago was discounted because of a small amount of missing tip, apparently on a fresh model the tip is incredibly thin by design.
Also the blade is just over 4" long, one of the reasons I love it but also something to be aware of.

If you're accustomed to using a fragile blade then I say go ahead and use it as an EDC utility blade, the reverse "S" is a nice cross between a hawkbill and a blade with belly. If you love the Spyderedge then this is an amazing knife.

(My EDC use is basically the same as everyone else, tape, cardboard, paper envelopes. I'm using a Mule for vegetables at the moment though, don't expect the Civi to do much in the kitchen.)

The Matriarch is a much more practical design, not to mention about half the price. The tip isn't as fragile, but still razor sharp and is also a lot lighter with (at least in my opinion) better grip from the bidirectional texture in the FRN.

Thanks Joshua!

The Military is 4" and frankly that's quite a handy length, no issue with a little longer. Our limit is 5.5" in Texas, which was ALMOST fixed this legislative session, but failed at the last minute. Most likely will go through in 2017.

Cool, I've experienced the Tasmal Salt and Dragonfly as far as SpyderEdge, and the Hawkbill with belly is intriguing. Actually looking at a JumpMaster for a possible hard core fixed blade SE...

Thanks!
