Hey guys how are yah

i wanted to ask you is there on any website a comparison done on the these two models with their previous models since they keep changing throughout the years. I wanted to buy a delica but can not make sense of why some are cheaper some are more expensive. Some are quite old some are new, and the prices are much different. Or you can make my life much simpler in just telling me what is the best model for the price. Also since you have obviously used knives before what is the best edge to get when buying a knife. if you also have time could you explain to be what do the different numbers mean on the same spyderco models. thank you

The older models have steels that are known for not holding an edge as long as the newer models. Also, the newest models (D4 & E4) have stainless steel liners inside of the FRN handles, which gives it a significant increase in overall strength and durability. Lastly, the ergos (and the rest of the features) have been modified based on consumer feedback over 15 years. The D4 & E4 are the result of 15 years of evolution. This is something that rarely happens in the industry (at least as far as I know). Hope this helped.

As you can probably guess, I would suggest getting the newest models, though any of them will get the job done.

I'm thinking about getting a Delica for EDC. Is it worth getting the Wave model or does the little protrusion get in the way more than it helps?

my only experience with Delica's and Endura's is this:

-2 Delica 2's. SS, AUS-6
-2 Endura1's. SS, AUS-6

i'm no expert on these models, but from what i gather from the forums is that the current best buy would be the Delica 4.

as for the numbers, depending on which you mean:

Delica1 or Delica4, means 1st generation of production, and 4th generation. the 1st generation are the 'old' ones without the Boye-dent. the 4th gen is the best, latest, new and improved.

if you mean by numbers, the model-codes.....here goes:

for example, C07, C11, C28, C36 means the model-number of the particular knife. in the same order those are the Police, Delica, Dragonfly and Military

the number- and letter-codes at the beginning and/or end of the model-code?:

-C = folder
-B = balisong
-FB = fixed blade

-BK = black, or FRN
-GY = grey
-SL = silver
-W = wave
-FG = foliage green
-GRE = green
-TR = trainer

-S or SE = serrated
-P or PE = plain
-CE = combo-edge

-204 = sharpmaker and accesories
-302 = benchstones
-303 = pocket stone and double-stuff
-400 = ceramics
-701 = profile stones

-BK = FRN
-SS = stainless steel
-G10 = G10
-CF = carbon fiber

got that? ;)

thanks very much oh wise dennis:)

AJ- Lot of good answers here. I am sort of a collector of Enduras and as there is a corresponding Delica to most of the production ones the generations and descriptions are the same. What I consider as an Old Style Endura has an FRN handle and FRN integral (molded with the handle) clip. These were made in good steel of the day but have been surpassed by todays steel. Many of these new in the box have become quite collectible thus the high price. This I call the Endura 1.

Endura II had a stainless steel handle, stainless steel clip and AUS 6 steel blade. It went through at least two variations that I am aware of while still looking basicly the same.

Endura III- has an FRN handle but a metal clip that was reversible from left to right side by removing a single large bolt. This also went through several variations and blade steels (although changing little in appearance) until being replaced by current Endura 4.

Endura 4 was already described by another member quite well, I might add that the Endura II seems to be replaced by an updated stainless steel handle Endura 4 as well.

Now in there you also have different blade coatings, handle materials, steels, etc. that make it even more confusing. The matter is not helped by ebay dealers that do not update their pictures and have pictures of Endura 1 still but are calling them Endura 4. Some people are just asking way too much money for some of them too in my opinion. Hope this helps. Guys correct me if I messed up anything.

For new production knives (E4 and D4) I have purchased from Spydieguys and New Graham Knives recently, both have fair prices and good descriptions.

great post Messer, sums it up nicely  . that's most of the info i couldn't produce myself. and so, it seems i had 2 Endura II's instead of I's, but without the Boye-detent.

learned something new again :)
