Spyderco/Farid K2

The only thing that really really bothers me about the knife......is that there is only 2 pivots/screws holding it all together. That makes me uneasy. I firmly believe that 2 is 1, 1 is none. I know you can only have one pivot for the blade...but maybe just maybe one or two more handle screws. Just my opinion as a engineering student.

I don't know about the Spyderco one, but to my knowledge, the Farid made ones are milled from one piece.

What are you planning on doing with the handle? DO you have hulk type gripping power? 2 screws should be fine on a hand held knife.. remember, it's not a pry bar or hammer... ;]

btw Sheppard, how do you have one already! o_O

And when do these pre-ordered ones ship! !!!

That is a CRUWEAR Mili BTW. I too was a little concerned about the lack of support in the middle of the slabs of Ti. Doesn't really seem to be an issue from handling it. The only use it has seen is kitchen duty so far. I did whack an apple in half just for the fun of it. It didn't fall apart. It has a feel to it that no other knife I own has. I don't know what it is though. Maybe the lack of weight when that massive blade comes out. 6.2 OZ really is light IMO for the size. The FFG really lightens the blade. Maybe I'm used to my Military but this thing feels excessively large, where the Military really doesn't despite people saying it is. I probably won't carry it much honestly, but how can you not want one?

I'll carry it until my custom shows up and then sell this one :)

I carry 4in blades mostly and 6oz is not too heavy, 7oz is pushing it though.. that is my cutoff..

I'm on the fence on this 1 I like it but I want to see some hard use reviews but I do like it alot....aww I'll get it at some point I'm sure!

I am getting married next year and was going to get a Ti Millie to carry for the wedding, but I think the K2 is going to be the one in my pocket. I can't wait for this knife!

This is NOT a hard use knife....

Thin grind and blade stock, thinner than a Military....

Then there is a gap in the marketing of the knife:

"Farid Mehr is a British custom knifemaker best known for his heavy-duty, hard-use knives. His first collaboration with Spyderco, the K2™, is a generously sized folding knife that definitely supports the designer’s reputation. Just shy of 10 inches (254mm) overall, it features a 4.53-inch (115mm) blade ground from CPM® 10V®—the first high-vanadium tool steel made using Crucible® steel’s Powder Metallurgy process. CPM 10V’s toughness and machining characteristics are comparable to D2 and M2, but it’s impressive 9.75% vanadium content gives it extreme wear resistance. In a knife blade, this translates to superior edge retention—a highly desirable quality for a hard-use folder.

To balance the strength of its broad Bowie-style blade, the K2 features a full-flat grind that tapers over its entire width to a keen PlainEdge™ cutting edge. The blade’s spine is also precisely radiused near the handle to provide a comfortable bearing point for the thumb and a Trademark Round Hole™ ensures positive one-handed opening.

The K2’s handle is also a study in strength. It consists of two extremely stout scales machined from solid titanium. The reverse scale forms the foundation of the knife’s sturdy Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) and faithfully includes Farid’s signature serpentine cut on the lock bar. A stainless steel pocket clip attached near the pivot pin supports convenient right-side, tip-down carry.

Spyderco’s K2 combines the durability and heft that characterize Farid Mehr’s custom knives with the refined details that define Spyderco’s commitment to reliable high performance."

Think Military, like Ti Military.....

This is not a Tuff...

Yes one could do some harder type CUTTING with the K2, but it's not one that should be abused...
