I'm looking for people's experience with the LionSpy. It looks really nice but I have some question marks over my head :

How does Elmax steel compare to the likes of tried and true S30V ?

Is the picket clip removable ?

What's the deal with the small disc by the frame lock ?

I wonder what other knives would be considered direct competition to the LionSpy (?)

Well to answer your question about the small disk, it's lion steel's "ROTOLOCK" it both stops you from over extending the lock-bar, and if turned it will top the lock from disengaging. :)

Hey! I have a Lionspy. The pocket clip is removable with a tool that is included.
And another knife that the Lionspy is compared to is the ZT 0560.

The tool is included with the knife? How is the Elmax ?

Yes the tool comes with the knife. For me Elmax is pretty comparable to my PM2 s30v. However what you might want to consider is that it comes with a convex edge and some people don't like that.

Well the LionSpy def has my attention. I like Ti frame locks. It looks like a quality knife. But I'm not sure if it's worth twice as much as a Manix2 or say a ZT0350. But I'm interested.

I owned one for a while and it was a very well built knife. I always wished that the scales would have been a little thicker. The blade is also VERY beefy.

I have a lionspy. And I do like it i did get it at around same time as my zt 560. I carry the 560 in my rotation of edc blades. I do not carry the lionspy. The handle is not very comfortable on g-10 side. When you grip hard it kind of cuts i to your hand (not literally"cut") but you feel that the g10 corner is not smooth. Also it is (for me) very difficult to adjust the blade center/ tension. It's either to hard to open and centers or easy to open and is off center.almost hitting frame.
No i did email spyderco and they will take care of it for free. And this thread is a good reminder fo me to send in.
Lastly the Elmax on my lionspy is VERY VERY good. I have several Elmax blades and lionsteel Elmax is much better than alot if other Elmax i have had.
Good luck in your decision.

I have both the 560 and the Lionspy. For me I love them both. I never use the Lionspy. It's more of a fondle and admire knife for me whereas I have fully pimped my 560 and its my tactical backup tool. Can't go wrong with either.

Looks like most of your questions have been answered.

There seems to be a lot of love/hate about Elmax. I lean more toward feeling its pretty darn good, but I personally have not done a real comparison.

Some of the other ZTs and the original Lions would seem to closest competition.

I'd seen so many positive comments about the Lion and I liked it looks so I was considering getting one.
Then Spyderco came out with the LionSpy and being a bit of Spydie junky that made it a logical choice for me.

I like mine. F&F were near perfect. Kind of pricey, but its one heck of an impressive knife.

My LionSpy is a little too wide for me to EDC. It may be best to carry in a pouche or even open with RotoBlock (dial in mid frame) on as a fixed blade in a sheath. I think it has the thickest blade of any Spyderco folder.

The titanium lock bar has a replaceable steel insert in case it wears out. You can get a glass breaker clip screw from LionSteel.

Nice. Thanks guys. The LionSpy looks interesting enough to warrant a purchase. It will be my first Elmax blade.

I've been away for work for months and just got back a few weeks ago. Lost a couple of my fave folders on the job (dropping my Yo2 in the ocean was heartbreaking). So now that I'm back at home stateside I can replenish my knife stock and get a few more new ones that I have never owned before. That's why you may have seen my many posts all of a sudden inquiring about various knives to buy. Nice to be here online again.
