I really like this knife, although I have never had the chance fondling one. As if Bald1's praise some months ago wasn't enough

This pleasant little review has woken up the beast in me, craving for another edged tool.

Hey Cuz - thanks for the compliment. It definitely is one sweet fixed blade, probably the "sleeper" of the Spyderco lineup. Hopefully all the raving by Bald1 and myself about the Moran will get more people to go out and give this one a try.

Dexter,

Great minds think alike
smile.gif
!!! It r-e-a-l-l-y is a sweet litle knife isn't it? And sleeper is an understatement.

From Sal's comments about future Spydie Morans forsaking the rolled "Moran" edge and the super mirror polished finish, my advise continues to be BUY NOW!!!

All the best!

Hi Bob - yup, a real sweet knife! To make a sweet knife even sweeter, I'm thinking of having a Kydex sheath made for it. Getting a bit tired of the leather sheath now.

Dexter,

Just call Scott at Edgeworks or James at Chai Cutlery. Great Kydex sheaths already invented and produced thanks to Bob and son!

I have both and love them.

Waldo

Hi Waldo - thanks for the recommendation. I have already been discussing this with Mike Sastre of River City Sheaths about doing a combination IWB/neck carry Kydex rig.

Dexter,

Great review ! I thought you were only dealing with folders ;-)

I will create a link from our Perrin review to yours !

You did a great job (as allways !)

Cheers,
JM

Hi JM! Thanks for the compliment and for linking my review. Believe it or not I am expanding my interests a bit to include some practical sized fixed blades

I got the Moran and now itching for a Nimravus...then maybe one of Dozier's smaller blades

Dexter,

A suggestion if I may since you mentioned the Nimravus. There's been some ink on that knife already. A similar length fixed blade is about to be introduced by EDI. Their PARATUS which will be in A2 steel to boot. What I'd like to see you do is a review of this blade as a stand alone or compared to the Nimravus.

Why don't you drop an e-mail to Will Fennell of EDI about doing a review? Be nice to see you have some ink on this knife as it hits dealer shelves.

Hi Bob - thanks for the heads-up. I have discussed the Paratus with Will on a couple of occasions but never really asked for an evaluation sample. Next time I talk to him I'll bring this up (Will - if you're reading this: drop me an email or give me a holler). Thanks for the recommendation!

Bob, Dexter,
You guys are killing my wallet. Military, Moran... Oh well, I want the Starmate next.
Thanks for the great work, nice being able to get some informed opinions before shedding sheckels.

Hey copfish - I can rave about the Starmate if you would like

Aaaah!!!

A Spydie Moran is slowly crossing the ocean and will soon be in my possesion. I ordered it from Ultimate outdoors for a Very reasonable price. They do accept international orders and the shipping costs are indeed human.

Cliff Hanks has responded to my (perhaps frequent and a bit annoying

) emails quite quickly, very service-minded.

It is here! A lovely little Moran Featherweight, and a feathers weight it has, it is really a lot lighter than I expected, but yet it feels solid. I carved up a melon with it and i was amazed by how it felt in the hand, you have total control over every inch of the blade. This is top quality, a flawless piece of work. Many at the forums say that it deserves a better sheath and I agree, a kydex/concealex sheath would probably be the thing. The leather sheath is kind of hard and it is not very easy to draw the knife and put it back in. But...When I think of it, maybe this sheath just needs some running in. New leather boots seldom feel right at your feet the first days of usage, but when you have used them for a while, they just slip on. I will give it a try.

Thanks to Cliff Hanks at ULTIMATE OUTDOORS for EXCELLENT customer service.
