This is a follow-up on a couple of other posts I made today — The Long Wait and The Arrival. I think a little background may be in order. As said in one of those previous posts, I ordered this knife in late January, 2022. I carry a Benchmade Doug Ritter Mini-Griptillian almost daily. I wanted to try a knife in Magnacut and when the Native 5 Salt was announced I decided to give it a try. I figured it could compete for pocket time with the min-grip.
So, first impressions: It’s slim…it’s tight, feels very mechanical to me whereas the min-grip feels vey fluid. I’ll chalk that up to the mini-grip being fully broken in. Time will tell on the Native 5. It will take some time. It’ the first Spyderco I’ve ever owned.
It is quite literally “hair-popping” sharp. Near perfect grinds. Great fit and finish IMG_0259.jpegIMG_0266.jpeg
I will say I’m impressed. Sure, it’s a lightweight — it’s got plastic sides. Some might say it feels cheap, but it doesn’t really. I happen to dislike metal sides or scales. Give me antler, bone, Micarta, wood, even FRN! I think this will be fine.
I believe I’ll adjust easily to the “Spydy-hole”, and we’ll see how this Magnacut works out. Maybe more later.

The handles do look cheesy. 🧀🧀
Yeah, but most frn handles look pretty cheesy. I will say these are very well formed and finished. They’re contoured in the right places, fit very tight and feel very solid. Although they don’t have the roundness of the sides in the mini-grip, they feel more solid and substantial. I can’t complain - knew what I was getting.

I think V Vlade was saying the handles look like actual cheese..

I have the same knife. I‘ve found, after two-three weeks of use, that it breaks in nicely. (The blade drops half way when the spine lock is pressed.) And the Magnacut has held up fine both edge-wise and finish-wise with daily use here on the river. Congrats on your new knife! Oh, and I did add a MXG deep carry clip which does aid in retention.

If you fall in love with the knife and want to change the color, RIT dying is pretty simple as well. I found the yellow to be helpful when fishing or in the outdoors when I had a native 5 lc200n

Yeah, I've got to pick one of these up at some point. You confirmed my initial opinion of the knife. Spyderco has always done extremely well at their edges, and now they've got MagnaCut to play with, so you know they did it well.

I have one and use it as an edc almost daily. Very solid build, sharp, easy to use. Its weight is light enough I do not even know its in my pocket, and I like the yellow color for using it outdoors because it is easy to see.

Update of sorts. It is clipped in my pocket nearly every day. When I need, for what to me is, a larger blade it has been perfect. Very sharp! Light and easy to carry. Close to a perfect complement to my small Case Stockman.
