I don't know if this has been discussed but with the expired axis lock patent, the market will have a new wave if axis locking knives not made by benchmade. Spyderco uses the sage line to commemorate knife locks and what better lock is there to commemorate then that of their competition.

Probably the best way to get a "Benchmade" with decent fit and finish.

If Spyderco made an axis-lock Nirvana, I'd be on board with that in a second.

SPyderco has the ball bearing and caged ball bearing lock. Think axis lock but it keeps itself free from grit. Dodo style ball bearing sage would be cool.

Er, what? I love the axis lock as much as the next guy, but the Sage 3 is already the answer to this question. It's not like operation of the Spyderaxis1, er, bolt-action lock is much different than that of the axis lock . . .

The AXIS lock patent did not expire. It was amended, reapplied for, and granted in 2010 from what I've been able to find. Don't think you will be seeing one for a while.
