Does anybody have experiences with the sage series?
If so, what is your favorite of the three?
I love the look of the carbon fiber one, but the titanium one looks awesome too.
Or are there any other carbon fiber folders at roughly the same price?
Pic's are welcome!

The Sage series is awesome, I have the 1st 3, the Ti and carbon fiber are both great, but really they are about showcasing different lock mechanisms (and honoring the innovators of them) than handle material. Pick the type of lock you like best and go for it!

Or collect them all. That way you'll have an opportunity to experience different lock types that are all based on the same design.

Sage 1, with liner lock, is a great entry to the series due to the price. Sage 2 is a smooth titanium frame lock. Sage 3 with bolt action lock came in blue G-10 and now G-10/CF laminate. Sage 4 with back lock has wood with titanium bolsters.

There'll be more folders in the series with different locking mechanisms.

Here's a related thread: Spyderco Sage Goodness

Here are all 5 currently in the Sage Series from left to right: Sage 1, Sage 2, Sage 3 (blue G-10), Sage 3 (CF/G-10 laminate) and Sage 4.

I've had the sage 1, 2, and 4. My favorite and the only one I still have is the 4. Its a bit thicker and heavier than the others which makes it feel more substantial in hand. The bolsters are titanium, so not as heavy as stainless steel. I switched the ironwood out for some birch on mine.
All great knives though.

I used to own all four of them. The two complaints I hear most often are the blade to handle ratio, or the smaller cutting edge due to the choil. The other complaint is how wide in the pocket it is. It's not a thick knife (well the Sage 4 sort of is) but it is wide when closed due to the blade shape. It doesn't bother me though. I think the ergos are top notch and the fit and finish are always good.

I would rank them as follows:

1. Sage 2 - The only one of the bunch I currently still own. It's just a fabulous titanium frame lock.
2. Sage 1 - A super EDC that can hold it's own as a gentleman's carry with the good looking CF scales.
3. Sage 3 - Ambidextrous lock is a plus here, the blue G10 was a turn off for some but now it's available in CF too.
4. Sage 4 - One of the best looking of the Sage series but a little two thick and heavy for me.

I've owned and used them all but I chose to keep the Sage 1, second choice would have been the 2.

Edit: Nice scales spketch!

I carried my sage 1 today for the first time in awhile, and after using it a few times, I thought to myself, this is an almost perfect design. I got carried away trying other knives and moved it out of rotation for awhile. The cf scales look good, not so grippy that they destroy your pockets,go in and out easily, and actually get more grip when they get wet, when needed, which is important to me. Lightweight, slices well, looks good, and priced well for the quality and material. My one and only complaint, and it's minor, is sometimes when cutting through something, I've buried the choil into the cutting surface. The sage's are an outstanding value IMO.

I own the sage 1 and 4. I like the lightweight utility of the 1, and I m a sucker for a well built folder with stylish wooden handles. Nice job spketch.

I honestly think the Sage 1 is a near-perfect gentleman's EDC. Lightweight, refined, disappears in the pocket, FFG S30V goodness in a small package.

Thanks for the compliments on the scales, I love the look of nice birch. I should mention that the stock ironwood scales are very nice too but I bought this one used and damaged. Might have kept the original otherwise.

I like the Sage series but have yet to own one. When the compression lock comes out, that will be when I jump in.

I have the 2 & 3. The Ti framelock is great, really smooth and easy to close. I'm looking to pick up the 1 in CF soon. I actually prefer the blue G-10 rather than the updated version with CG-10, I can't get over the funky pattern.

I have the 1 and the 3. The 1 I wear to work daily with a suit. It's small enough and spiffy enough to pass for a "gentlemen's knife" in that environment, at least until I have to ditch it when I go to court or have to show up at some other government building were such accessories are frowned upon. The 3 I carry sans clip in the front pocket of my jeans when a clipped knife would draw unwanted attention or I know I'm going to be surrounded by non-knife people a/k/a sheeple, and carrying anything larger or more "aggressive" lookling (Al Mar Eagle HD...) would likely cause some sort of hoopla.

I think the Sage knives make pretty good EDC knives, 3" (maybe a hair less?) are legal in many places (sorry to say, not all) and the blade style is pretty useful. They also fit the (at least) my hand well.

I don't really need them, but I'll probably pick up a 2 and 4 eventually, as well.

The Sage 1 is an outstanding, classy EDC. I prefer it to the Sage 2 due to the price, decreased weight, and faster action.

Sage 2 and Sage 3 carbon here. Love em. I'll never sell em.

They are a tad big for my usual taste but the quality & value are so high on these that they are hard to beat.
