Hey everyone,

I'm interested in buying a spyderco smock and want y'all's take on the pros and cons!

Because you're all the best!

Thanks. It's a fun knife and a different sort of Spyderco. There are a bunch of options for customization too...

I really like it - best compression lock implementation out there, and high quality like all Taiwan Spydercos. Just a little small for me, so I don't use it too often.

They definitely didn’t put much thought into the button on that knife.

My only complaint is the choil. It's oddly shaped and just a bit too big, in my opinion.

I never liked the oddly shaped choil either which is why I sold mine. Never cut myself on it but the possibility exists.

I prefer the choil on the original non-compression lock Smock SK23 and, if I could find one to buy w/o breaking the bank, I would.

One of my favorite Spydies. I'm a lefty so the way they turned the compression lock into a button lock is awesome to me. Super intuitive and fun to use. Taiwanese Spydercos are arguably the best ones. My only complaint is the choil. It's oddly shaped and just a bit too big, in my opinion.

The choil largely seems to be accomodation for the button.

I actually like the button on this one. At least based on how I hold and use it, it is much less likely to get accidentally pressed than some of the current-generation button locks I use.

I got one for a nice price on the forum after wanting one for a while. It will do all the regular knife stuff like opening Amazon boxes just fine, the button-compression lock is a good implementation of a neat idea, the ergonomics are better than I expected, and it's a fun fidget knife. I think the Winterblade Factor is a slightly more unique and interesting execution of a similar concept but it's ~2x the price. And if you really prioritize performance something like a PM2 is probably a little better choice thanks to the slightly more functional ergonomics (choil design, opening hole).

Although it looks nothing like it, it reminds me of my Benchmade 940 Osborne.

I actually enjoyed mine fairly well, but ultimately, the fact that it was too small resulted in me moving it along to a friend. If you have larger hands, that little indent is too low, and you'll find yourself with your index finger riding up on the squared off part of the handle below the blade. I have so many other knives that are just more comfortable so it had to go. I will say, the button activated compression lock made it nice and fidgity like Benchmade AXIS lock knives, and Spyderco's other compression lock knives are, so that's a plus. All in all, I probably wouldn't purchase another, but think they are very nice looking knives, and its slim nature did have it disappearing into a pocket easily.

There are definitely worse knives at the price point.

This is a knife I would take over another Smock. Good choice, the blades are very similar, weight, slimness of handle, just without the drawback of that out-of-place indexing indent.

Cons: Never even knew about this model!

(Well, maybe I did-Ive seen so many knives...)

Pros: Now it's on my list!

This can happen when you find yourself falling off of your ship, then swimming away from the Island Tequila.

(Don't ask me where it is)

(I wish I could remember)
