Does anyone have any experience with the Spyderco Yojimbo 2 and the Cold Steel Tuff Lite? I bought a number of Cold Steel knives years ago and wasn't impressed with the quality. However, it appears that they've gotten better over the years. As such, I'm wondering if anyone has compared the Cold Steel Tuff Lite's cutting ability with that of the Spyderco Yojimbo?

There is no comparison between the two. Spyderco is clearly head and shoulders above any cold steel. Plus your 2 choices are nowhere near same size.

i actually had both but sold the yojimbo. the yojimbo is in a different league in terms of materials and fit and finish, however i personally am not a huge fan of compression locks. the tuff lite is cheap and very reliable and i prefer backlocks. i never really got to use the yojimbo, but i the tuff lite is very easy to touch up on a spyderco sharpmaker so keeping it sharp should not be a problem if you plan on using it often.

I've actually been staring at the Yojimbo 2, cause I'm already trying to decide my next edc purchase that will be happening after 3 more knife purchases. An obsessive lead on the game lol! Have fun with whatever you choose, brother, and have a great weekend

For me, the Yojimbo takes itself out of the running on price alone. The Tuff Lite cuts well enough, but the Triad lock eliminates it as a carry knife. This balky and difficult back lock is wearing a groove in my thumbnail, which threatens to tear the next time I snag a raw end. The lock’s action may improve with time, but it will be a long time because I won’t use it that much.

This knife would be much more attractive as a $10.00 friction folder.

I have both and disagree with you entirely. Outside of need a few sharp spots on the plastic handle smoothed down when you take it out of the box the first time the Tuff Lite is an altogether superior knife.

Never handled a Yo2 but I have a Tuff Lite, it's a great little utility knife. I think the two serve different purposes. The TL is in AUS8 steel which is nothing like any of the Yo2 steels. And I believe the Yo2 is intended for self defense as well as utility.

The Yojimbo 2 is bigger, heavier, has a fiddly lock I hate and comparatively doesn't feel as good in use, ergonomically speaking.

The Tuff Lite is IMO a remarkable little package. It's one of those rare very small knives that are very comfortable to cut with and don't feel small even when cutting hard.

If someone wants a great Yo2 sized straight edge I'd recommend the funky looking Launch 13 over the Yo2, incidentally. I'm a sucker for wharncliffe blades so I buy a lot of them . . .

I think the TL resembles the Spyderco Q Ball quite a bit, lock aside of course. I tried to find an image comparing the two but to no avail, I did find this on the spydie forums though. I'm guessing it's a modified Tenacious? If not a straight up custom.
