Staring at knives

I have gotten to the point (for some time, actually) that I often carry two knives to work and just open then and set them on my desk near my computer screen while I'm at work.

I'll just glance at them at times, I enjoy it because they are so cool to look at. It helps that I have a somewhat private office.

I suppose it's like a little kid carrying a new or favorite toy with him everywhere, just because he doesn't want to be without it. Toy dinosaur, for example...gotta love a brontosaurus, right?

Problem is, I'm 53, not 5, nor 3! Should I just go ahead and sign up for counseling now?

Anyone else ever just enjoy looking at knives, or have I waded into deep waters?

I'm 20 still pretty young I guess but none the less I do the same! When I'm up late doing homework my knives keep me company and occasionally a needed distraction. Or when I'm trying to think of an answer one of my knives finds it's way into my hand so I can flick it open and close until I figure it out. So you're not alone!

Im at work right now and have been staring at/flipping my 0560 all day. When ever anyone asks me about it i just tell them im a sick, sick man. Lol. ;)

I'm sure glad to see there are at least four of us, I feel better now!

HR will remain unengaged, and I'll continue to fly under the radar.

I do that with mine... (just starting this, only have one...) I've also formed a habit of opening it just to hear the click it makes when it opens. Man I love that sound. Not too surprising I guess. I was the same way with the noise my old comp from about 9 years ago made when it started up. Kind of missed it when I upgraded.

I bring 2-3 knives and put them on my desk. that's excluding the one I edc in my pocket. that is normal i say :p

I don't at work , but when at home I more often than not share the monitor screen with one of my little buddies in view. Especially when visiting the blade forum, it just feels right.

While i may not stare, it gives me a good feeling to fondle them.
Do you feel the difference?
I mean there are knives more suited than others.

Perhaps "staring" is the incorrect word. Seems creepy now.

"Admiring" would be a better choice, thanks Red Mag. :)

yes, my friend, you have a problem. but admitting you have a problem is the first step toward solving it, right. When you figure out how to overcome it, let us know, cause prolly most of us suffer from it. .......nah, on second thought, if you get the solution, keep it to yourself. of all my problems, I think this is the most benign, and also one of the most fun.

Your on Bladeforums, yes a lot of people stare or handle their knives when their bored.

You also didn't think this through if you get counseling it will probably eat into your knife fund. I bet you didn't think that through all the way did you? Do you really want to drain your knife fund? I know I don't, so my advice if you find it to be such a problem build a stand for those knives so they can be put up for decoration. In fact it could be a fun project for you and your favorite work knife. This way it's not longer weird and creepy and it is now "Art" and your admiring it .

You guys are just twisted. I hate to be so blunt but such obsession requires bluntness. I have seven... no, eight knives on my desk right now but I do not stare at them. I do talk to them occasionally. The 110 year old knife needs to know that the 40 year old knife next to it has not replaced it and the custom needs to know that it is appreciated as well. Calling my knife "my precious" and fondling it is just a part of the job of a dedicated knife whisperer. But I don't stare at them, no. That would be impolite.

You have Knifeitus an the only cure is to buy more knives ! I am infected as well so i feel your pain , I'll order a knife online an go back an look at the picture 30 times that same day . Knives are truly a work of art an a beautiful thing you admire . I spend hours a week on here simply looking at pictures of other people's knives , I use to set out my collection on the floor an go thru them looking at one's that I haven't seen in awhile. The wife came in an realized I had way more than she thought or remembered so now I sneak home an do it in private lol .....

NEVER stare at your knives. It gives them a superiority complex. You have to let them know who's master.

It's called "tough love".

Codger_64 made me laugh. I'm much too old to stare at anything anymore (other than girls); and even then, my eyes start to water. Or am I cryin'?
:)

It is probably ingrained into the human animal. Knives were one of man's first tools other than a rock or stick. How little things have changed................

I spend most of my time while I'm at home "playing" with my knives. I try not to give any one too much attention, wouldn't want to upset the others!
