Benchmade finally released the new Steep Country 15006 today. It's a revision of the previous 15008 model. I love the FFG, stonewash blade and what appears to be a nice sheath. Curious whether anyone else plans on buying one in the future?

I just bought the older version for hunting on closeout and it's an amazing knife in the hand. And that's coming from a UGA graduate who despises the color Orange in every regard. I bought the knife anyway. It's a pleasure to hold and use. The new handle looks a little more grippy, which could be useful, even though the older one I have is as solid in the hand as any knife I've ever held. The rubberized handle on mine is great. Very well balanced, and the handle to blade ratio is perfect. Very good ergonomics. That being said, I would love to have this knife with a Richlite handle. The Hidden Canyon blade is a little too short and the Saddle Mountain is a little too long. This Steep Country is near perfect in size.

M Mayberry it's time you admit that orange awesome ;) Not going to lie, part of the reason I'm looking forward to most likely buying this knife in the future is because my Gator pride will love having a blue Bugout and orange Steep Country lol. I've been tempted by the older version, but this new version with the FFG stonewash blade is what puts this one over the edge to probable purchase for me. I agree with you that the Steep Country is the perfect size to me, as opposed to the Hidden Canyon and Saddle Mountain. I'm surprised they have not offered it in Richlite handle as an option. I wonder the thinking behind that or whether they plan on releasing that later. Have you gotten the chance to use yours for hunting tasks?

Not yet. I just got it a little over a month ago and it's in my hunting pack, waiting. I've been holding out on a nice buck since we were in the rut, but I'm getting close to popping a nice doe if she comes my way. I'm ready to put some meat in the freezer. But the ergonomics and handle are great. This knife will be a great skinner and gutting knife, for sure.

Mine arrived today after a long preorder wait. A significant improvement over the old version. Blade stock is the perfect thickness. Handle ergos are terrific and the sheath is stellar. It is evident a lot of thought went into improving this one. 18 days left in our bow season...hopefully I can put it to work and provide field report.
