Does anyone have a good remedy for a sticky button lock? I just got a brand-new Hogue X-5 flipper, and I've been having some trouble disengaging the lock. I've tried both the sharpie and pencil graphite trick with no luck so far.

Have you tried a drop of a light oil?
Preferably one with PTFE (Teflon) but not necessarily so...

Did you make sure to get it on the tapered plunger that engages?
Accessible when the knife is partially open by looking between the handle slabs from the bottom.
It might take more than a few cycles to break in the contact area of the mating surfaces...

Also, I have the same knife, in blue......love it!!
Mine was a little sticky also out of the box, but after some carry, use and flicking it is smooth as glass now.
I also put a dab of Blue Lube on the spot explained in gzb’s post.
Hang in there with it because it is one of the best flippers I have!

I just disassembled the whole thing, cleaned it, lubed the pivot, lubed the plunger (including the tapered part), reassembled it, and I'm still getting some pretty back stick. Do you think it's just a matter of break-in?

I would just make sure its lubed a little and use it. My AFO always has a slight stick to it and that is exactly the secure lock up I would want. I would call that ideal and let it break in with some use.

Good advice this ^...
