Strider PT, Thoughts and Comparisons

When I was trying to decide if I wanted a PT or not, I did a lot of searching for information. Most of the comparison pictures I found were comparing the PT to other hide end knives, like the SnG, Sebenza, etc. I didn't have any of those knives. So, it really didn't tell me a whole lot.

I've been carrying my PT pretty much every day since purchasing it. It is wonderful blade and has become my favorite knife. The ergonomics are just amazing.

You can get a full grip on this knife when choked up. I have average size hands. (a large size cheap glove fits perfectly).

If you need some extra leverage, you can choke down on it, and still get a full 3 fingers on the knife no problem.

This what I carry in pocket during the day at work, minus the cell phone taking the picture.

Here are some comparison pictures.

Spyderco Delica: The Delica needs a choil. Both knives weigh 2.5 ounces.

Cutting Edge

handle length

Spyderco Dragonfly2:
The Dragonfly2 is a nice small knife. But it cramps my hand when choked up on it. And when I choke down on, it feels unsecure. The handle on the dragonfly isn't tall enough for me. That sharp point over the spyderhole limits where you can put your thumb.

If you're looking for your first high end production knife in a small package, take a long hard look at the Strider PT. It may not look as gentlemanly as a Small Sebenza, but I will tell you that the flamed titanium on the Striders is AMAZING. I love to pull it out and watch it sparkle in the sunlight. The angles on the knife look like they wouldn't be comfortable, but they are actually very comfortable. It helps fill the whole hand and make a small knife, feel larger in the hand. That feel helps reduce fatigue with prolonged use.

I forgot to mention that I took the pocket clip off this knife, and carry it loose in my pocket.

I've been trying to find a PT but no where online has them, and I always seem to be just a bit too late on the secondary market. I really want to try one out as I want a new discreet carry knife and the PT seems just up my alley. I put my name on a list at my local knife shop and they said they were expecting some soon but I haven't heard anything lately.

Iv'e got a Msc performance pt and absolutely love it, very light, nice and thin and you forget it's even in your pocket.

I was very vigilant watching the Exchange for about a month, then finally snagged one.

I wasn't sure if I would like carrying it loose in my pocket or not. So I bought a lego version to get a pocket clip. But I ended up liking it without the pocket clip. YMMV.

Last Friday I managed to snag one of the few Mick Strider Custom Knives (MSCK) Performance Series PT (Stealth) folders directly from MSCK! It came in late yesterday.

Simply, it's FANTASTIC! Well centered, sharp blade, very smooth, lock up at 30% and great fit & finish. It's a great EDC! Great choil allows full grip for such a small folder.

Actual blade length is 2.9” (2.3" cutting edge) not 3.25” per MSCK website so great for Los Angeles! Blade thickness is 0.125” and weighs 2.65 ounces!

I've included standalone pictures as well as next to Small Sebenza 21 and 3" Hinderer XM-18.

By the way, XM-18 weighs 3.43 ounces and Sebenza 2.97 ounces. So, it's even lighter than them.

Highly recommended.

Wow that black is sick, love it.

I was looking at getting rid of my PT for a Dauntless, but after reading this.. I might have to reconsider.

It was a bit of a chore to track it down anyways.. Lol

I've had a number of PT's; both CC's and clipped. They are very nice folders and I've owned many. Strider service is impeccable.
However, I have large hands, and so the PT's handle size doesn't work for me. I need at least a 4-inch handle, although I'm delighted with blades of three inches or less...Sage 2, Native 5 is about as short a grip as I can use.

I feel that to get the most secure grip on the PT I have to place my index finger on the choil like the Ohioan's first picture.

I agree, and I have medium-sized hands. I can just get by with a Small Sebenza. But any folder with a handle length shorter than that is a no-go for me.

You have to include the choil. I don't think of it as part of the blade. It's like part of the handle folds back into itself.

Love my PT. But hate the high carry clip. Ridiculous to have that much of a small knife sticking out of my pocket.

Regarding the handle length of the PT vs. XM-18 3" and Small Sebenza 21 I'd say there are three measurements or ways of looking at it, that is, full & actual handle length, bottom of handle to top of index finger marker and bottom of handle to top of choil (if any):
