Strobe Function Light?

I am looking for a light with a strobe function for my traffic control duties. I would prefer something similar to a G2 or Strion, but want to go no larger than the size of the Streamlight Stinger (not the large one).

Here are my preferences:

1. Rechargeable preferred.
2. Must be able to equip with a red/orange/yellow light cone.
3. Strobe function.
4. Prefer incan. bulb. (this light is for traffic control only)
5. I would prefer sub-$100.
6. Must NOT be a MagLite.

So...any ideas? Let me know what y'all would/have used.

Thanks

ETA: Yes, I know that some prefer to carry a monstrosity of a light when doing traffic duty. I, however, do not. It is mostly to assist with event parking for the campus where I am employed.

Check the PD30 from Fenix. It does everything you describe, except I don't know about having a rechargeable option. And I'm not sure about the size but the Fenix is about the size of cigarette lighter.

Bright Guy has some specialized lighted LED cones for traffic directing. You mught want to consider those.

Check out liteflux. They have some pretty small lights packed with awesome fully programmable features. Including a strobe and s.o.s.

I own 3. They're awesome.

Another vote for Fenix PD30 I also have the 20 and use CR123 rechargebles in both with no problems just make sure your choice for rechargebles are 3.0 Volt ;)!!

Why? Do you want the bulb to blow out on you?

No, he wants the batteries to run down fast so he can knock off and go home. ;)

Seriously, the two greatest points in favor of LED flashlights are longevity (most are rated for 50 to 100 thousand hours) and run time. A good LED light will still be running at full brightness long after the batteries won't light an incan.

Fenix has traffic cones built for their LDx series lights, as well as their TAx lights, IIRC. I'd look into picking up an LD20 with orange cone attachment for ease of batteries (2xAA), many brightness choices, as well as the strobe feature. It's always a good idea to have spare batteries around, however.

Take a look at the Fenix LD20. Fits the description of what you're looking for other than it being LED and not incandescent. Takes AA batteries which I think is always a plus.

I am open to LED. However, I am real picky about the color. I find it really hard to see with some of them. I want this light specifically for traffic duty, but I know I will use it for other stuff at work as well. One of my main duties on the night shift is ruining the lives of college students by writing them parking tickets. It is dang hard to see clearly when I use my LED lights. The bluish color hurts my eyes when shining it on or near a piece of white paper. If I could find a moderately-priced LED light with a softer/warmer beam color I would be all kinds of thrilled.

ETA: that LD20 looks like it might take the cake. Especially with the 180lm  That just might send my G2 to back-up duty.

the color was funky on some of the old ones (LED's)but the ones now are not like that, if ya want strobe i would get one of the fenix they are excellent lites and priced right too.

if ya live in austin ya could take a look at mine sometimes, i've got fenix, L4 and L2 SF if ya wanna.

Quark is coming out with a run of warm LEDs which look just like an incan, you can preorder them right now I think.
That way you get the reliability of an LED with the color of an incan.

I wonder if that's a color issue or a brightness issue. Many of the LED flashlights we talk about here are far too powerful for reading and writing. The glare at close range like that is blinding.

There are some flashlights with variable brightness that might work both for distance and close range -- either that or carry a second flashlight for writing tickets, a little pocket flashlight that isn't too bright.

Streamlight Stinger LED.

Has everything you want, except the incan, and you don't really want incan. :)

The new LD20 has 205 lumens. :D

I have the JetBeam Jet III M in a warm tint, which you might like. I've sent a lot of these to guys in the middle east. They seem to really like the ability to set the head loosened mode to whatever you want, while still having access to max brightness with the head tightened.

Generally, when it comes to flashlights, I'm inclined to answer, "Whatever powernoodle says."

Someone mentioned Quark, which is one of the other answers that usually comes to the front of my mind. In this case, Quark doesn't offer the colored cones (although Fenix cones fit if you don't mind doing a little filing.)

All I really want to say is— quit being a Luddite and get yourself an LED. Warm versions are now available and will suit you just fine. :)

actually, i would think a strobe would not be so good for traffic duties. it tends to be somewhat disorienting.

a colored cone or filter would seem best.

when ive done traffic control, i just use my regular light, day or night.
