Hi everyone.

Would love to pick your brains for a moment. I'm in the market for a new multitool. I have owned 3 leathermans so far - lost 2 and still have a Fuse which I love. (Really love leatherman - know that there are many other branded multi-tools but don't know anything about them !) But the pliers are not strong enough for work. I do security - ATM technician - need a tool that is strong and durable with as many functions as possible. Doesn't need to be "tactical" - that's what the firearm is for LOL.

Requirements - prefer the biggest strongest tool possible. Pliers must be strong and really capable of cutting wire etc. Has to have a leather sheath (just my preference). Hate - absolutely hate the screwdrivers with the interchangeable heads. Lost one with my old skeletool and it was just annoying. So has to have a real phillips head screwdriver, flat head(s) that are integral to the tool. At least one knife. Don't care if it has scissors, saw, bottle opener, can-opener or not. File would be useful. Obviously the blades need to lock in place. Will be carried on my belt - so no need to be small or light. Actually want as big and heavy as possible !

Thanks a lot to everyone who replies. Found bladeforums to be an invaluable resource !

Supertool 300, plain and simple. I use it alot for fixing fences and cutting thick wires on my olive tree farm. It has all you want, its big, bad and built incredibly sturdy. A hard working mans multitool with all the screwdrivers, blades and files that are needed for almost any task. I got the black one.

Check it out

If you're going to really put the wear & tear on your tool, the Surge might be a better choice. The three tools that wear out the most, the saw, the file and the screw bits are all replaceable for $1-2. As long as you keep your blades sharp and don't break the pliers, you have yourself a lifetime tool.

+ 1 on the Super Tools 300.

Meets all you requirements. Real phillips and flat-head drivers, Strong pliers with replaceable 154CM cutters, 2 blades and a file.
All the tools are on the inside, though. Don't know if that's a deal breker for you.

The Surge is also good but it takes interchangeable bits and the housing for the saw/file is not very strong.

I've been using a ST 300 for a few months and it's great if you need something strong and don't mind the weight. I prefer it to the Surge because of the interchangeable wire cutters. I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice.

Since the sheath has an extra compartment I carry a ratchet with different bits from one of my SwissTools in there. It's really handy and works very well. It's sold sepparately from the SwissTool.

Paladin Tools PT-525. Has the SOG compound leverage for extra grip from the jaws. While some of the tools are communications specific, you can order replacement bits from SOG to put in other blades, files, drivers, etc in their place.

Paladin PT-525, Supertool 300, Leatherman Core, and any of the old full sized Swisstools are all big strong tools. Of these the Paladin's the biggest by a hair, and has some really nice features for electrical work
