What small knives do you own and like? (2.5" blades or less) Folder or fixed.

I've gotten this bug for short/fat bladed folders and started picking up things like the Spyderco Chicago, Ambitious, Boker Subcom. I even got one of the Boker Gnome fixed blades since it was a nifty shape and micarta handle.

I've searched out some other makers of similar style knives but wanted to get your inputs on what you have and what you like.

I'm sure there are plenty of stubby knives I haven't honed in on - especially in the custom and semi-custom arena.

Heres a stubby snubby. This knife has turned out to be one of my favorites. Really like the big handle.

Yeah - those razel's are intriguing --- not sure what i make of the blade shape but hear folks generally like em.

I like the short stubby little guys too. Sure like the Ambitious. How does the Chicago compare?

In a traditional slip joint, the Sunfish pattern might be of interest. Great Eastern makes some very good ones. I personally like it. I like a knife that is a handful that you can use.

i got a few spyderco bugs and ladybugs and they are awesome. you wouldn't think a spyderco bug would be able cut anything but I found it amazingly handy when I use to work with horses and had to constantly cut things (saved a horse once when I cut a NG tube in half so it wouldn't suffocate after it had an allergic reaction to something I never found...). cutting thru twine for bales of hay and countless small plastic nubs for 5 liter LRS bags as well as fairly thick plastic wrapped bales of wood shavings were made quick and easy for me and it was much safer then using just a #22 surgical blade. of course i had a larger knife just incase i had to cut thru a halter or lead rope but that small bug did a hell of a job on 99% of the stuff I had to cut!

oh and when you say short and stubby, i think of the kabar warthog :)

I have Dragonflys in G10 and FRN. Also available in ZDP and H1.

Spydie's first Cat and Chicago were CF and now are G10.

The Boker Trance is stout, with a 2 3/4 inch blade.

The Buck Lux Pro gent's knife has a 2 5/8 inch blade.

One of my first folders was the Falkniven U2 with 2.5 inch Swedish steel.

And don't forget the the under 2-inch crowd: MiniBuck, Ladybug and G10 Finch, plus the Balance in CF and now SS.

The Solingen made Boker PryMate, (top below) is a stubby - with a 7 mm (.28" !) thick blade spine - but almost 2.75" long edge, like the Boker Plus Stag Rhino (bottom below). The Rhino and the Gnome (middle below), like the Subcom CLB Ti, are made in the PRC.

My EDC has been a Benchmade MPR - with a 2.75" edge on a .160" blade of M390 steel - since I bought it ~1.5 yr ago.

My favorite knife right now is a little custom EDC made by Chris at KFU. The handle to blade ratio for me is perfect. Blade is just over 2.5 and the handle is almost 4 inches. The handles are thick enough to where you feel like you are holding a big knife and despite it having a small blade it cuts like a demon. Did I mention I love this knife??

I really love my Boker plus Subcom it's very "stubby" and cuts all out of porportion to it's size not to mention they are very reasonably priced and the aus-8 is excellent and heat treated to just the right hardness IMO.

Surprised nobody has posted this one yet. I realize it's 2.9", but it's like the ultimate stubby looking knife.

Liveitloud --thats a sweet little fixed blade. I like the full size handle with a short blade too...very functional. Have to check that out more.

I have the BM MPR that got a couple mentions. It is a stout little railroad spike for sure but a bit too thick for my edc personally. I do carry on it on the weekends though.

Anybody have a Charles May Fireant?

Which Subcom did you get? If you haven't gotten it already, I recommend you get the Böker Plus Subcom Titan. Only costs a little more than the standard one, but you get a 440C blade and a titanium framelock and clip.
