I just got this flashlight this afternoon. Paid the most I have ever paid for a light, $100.00 out the door. Thats a lot for me, for a flashlight but I have needed to get a good light and the Defender just felt like the right one. From its feel and look, it appears to be built extremely tough. The 'strike bezel' whatever that means appears as it would leave a bitter mark if used to hit someone with.

Does anyone on board own this flashlight? I would love to hear some stories about this light or any Surefire.

What do you want to know? Best build quality and warranty of any flashlight company out there, bar none.

There are lights out there that will outperform the E2D is brightness, but are not built as well. I've got a Fenix P1D-CE in my pocket now and a limited edition P3D on the way. They perform incredibly well for the money, but the build quality isn't nearly on par with Surefire.

Iv had my e2d for a few years now and it has served me very well indeed. it works great for its intended purpose ;) iv never done the light any damage at all with quite a few "knocks" and drops over the years, only the finish shows the age.
only down side is CR123s are a bit on the costly side so i find iv started using my L4 alot more now. still the e2d is a great bit of kit, and was my first surefire as well

I've a defender, but my Fenix's get a whole lot more carry

Same here. I own the E2D, L4 and a Fenix P1D CE. All are good lights with a range of prices from $50 to $125. Lately, I have been using my L4 because it throws a good light and is rugged. I did use the E2D last night for comparison and since its a bulb versus a LED, the light was a lot 'warmer' but only 65 lumens versus 100 in the L4 and 135 in the P1D CE.

E2D does make a very good defensive tool if needed.

I have the E2O, and love it.

It is still very bright (much more than the rated 25 lumens would suggest), but retains good runtime.
Though I love LED's for their brightness and compact nature (the new Cree and SSC lights are incredible!), incans still rule the night.

I much prefer incans for color rendition and punch in poor weather.

I almost forgot: you can get the low output lamp assembly (the one in the E2O) if you want to extend the runtime a bit.

I have one and have carried a couple seasons hunting and in my general kit. It is great, I carry extra batteries though. A buddy got the LED attachment and it works good and burns less batteries.

Great for following blood trails in the dark.

I have one but it is buried either in a drawer or bugout bag. Was replaced by fenix lights. It tore up my pockets as well. The defensive scallops (I think thats what they are called) dont do anything for me. That being said, it is one well built light.could use to be twice as bright. does the LED mod work well?

i want to try to get the led bulb for my defender. i know the beam wont be as bright but my main thing is conserving my batteries. how does the LED mod work?

I don't know think they're available separately yet, if ever, but the E2L's KX2 head will work on the E2D, but you'll lose the crenelated bezel that makes the E2D, well, a 'Defender.' I have seen people put the spikes from the E2D on the KL2 head from the previous generation KX2, and I have also seen a (very) rare mod where an LED module is actually put inside the E2D after widening the hole in the reflector. As for the mod, I wouldn't know quite where to start but I'd try contacting MilkySpit on CPF first.
