Do any of you guys have experience with the new SureFire E2L AA Outdoorsman ??? I have had SureFire's in the past and really liked them, but the little lithium batteries are expensive. They only last for a short time also. Plus, they are kinda hard to find sometimes. Where as, AA are everywhere, even in remote areas. I believe retail is $165

Is this that much better than say a MagLite LED 2-AA version ??? I have used MagLites for years and the only issue I ever had with them was leaving the batteries in them too long and ruining them. And thats on me, not with the lights themselves.

The surefire is a far better overall product, nothing against mag but it won't even compare.

Is a Lamborghini better than a Ford Tempo?

Don't forget to check out a Fenix or Quark. Not quite the build quality of a Surefire, but still far better than a M@glite POS, and less than half the cost of the Surefire.

Wanna change your whole perspective on what a light should be?

Lets now go from a Lamborghini to a F16 Falcon.

Get this http://www.oveready.com/led-light-e...-single-level-drop-in-3-5-9-5v-/prod_163.html

put it in this. http://www.oveready.com/surefire-ho.../surefire-6p-bored-type-ii-black/prod_12.html

buy these batteries. http://www.oveready.com/batteries-c...argeable-battery-for-surefirea-/prod_186.html
and charge those batteries with this. http://www.oveready.com/batteries-c.../wf-139-lithium-charger-cc-only-/prod_43.html

the surefire aa is absolutely better than the maglite aa...but is it worth the big $ premium? only your budget can tell you that. either will surely light up a dark area.

it's worth it to me; i have multiple versions of surefires.

cr123 batteries are expensive only if you buy them in stores; if you buy them online they are very cheap (especially when compared to the performance of using aa's). you're web savvy, so buy them in quantity online.

going the "bored-out rechargeable" route does make for a superior lighting tool, no question. do it if you got cash to burn and want to play the flashlight game. but i think it only makes sense if you carry and use a light in the normal course of you work and/or you need high or specialized light power (like a LEO), then it makes fiscal sense.

if the convenience of always finding aa batteries is priority, then i'd opt for a surefire aa version. that will be the reason i might be getting one in the near future...

If you're going through cr123a batteries like crazy, you should probably switch to rechargeables, all my Surefires are incandescents with runtimes from 20mins - 70mins but they're all rechargeable and I never run out of power because they're always charged to 100%, plus guilt free lumens when I want to play with them or test them.

IMO buying a surefire and feeding it alkalines is like buying a sebenza and sharpening it with a cheap pull through sharpener, the runtimes and lumens quoted on most high performing AA flashlights are done with lithium AA batteries as well.

Don't forget to check out a Fenix or Quark.

Wise counsel indeed.

And whatever you get, consider feeding it Eneloop AA rechargeable batteries. They give you "free" lumens, and have a very low self-discharge rate.

I bought my dad a Fenix, and he loves it. He still has to crawl around in small spaces as a structural engineer pro witness jobs and the little flash light with the bright light works well for him.

its just my 0.02 but ive used both in the LED versions and to my eyes the maglight isn't even in the same leage that said as you said the surefire batteries are exspensive so i now carry a regular maglight i want a better light but ive come to the conclusion it HAS to run on AAA or AA batteries for my use now .

Never had an issue with Maglite AA LED lights. They are bright (brighter than my Inova) - not as bright as my Surefire G2 - but perfectly useful. Makes a decent kubaton as well.
