It's a lot of fun! Post some pics when you give it a try.Hey, I will try that. Always wanted to, but never saw a diagram of the various cuts and notches.... That looks like a good skill building exercise for around the campfire.
I love using my 5 so much. Nimble and able to take a beating. I'm really excited about experiencing the 4.7 and new 4.1.Awesome!
It's crazy how nimble that 5 is right?!!
The flute is only for people that want to dance around in the forest while wearing really tight tights.
For the spoon I used the tip of the 4.1 and did a V-grove then slowly shaped it. It's honestly a pain in the butt.
Wood wise I chose this citrus because it's pretty flexible and it dried without having any cracks from the eye leading out. I would definitely suggest a medium density wood only because I'm new at this. Soft wood can break and that's just asking for an accident and hardwood is just hard. I'm to damn lazy for that!
I get it, Standard. I meant to say seeing your try stick made me want to do it myself and inspired this thread!
Oh ok I read it wrong. I didn't want to take credit but I'm glad it helped inspire some people. I still need to get off my butt and make some with 3.5 and 6! I've barely even used these things.
Haha I plan on dulling it up soon! I can't believe you missed out on the two that were for sale today!I'll take that 3.5 if you need someone that'll put it to use.
Greener is definitely easier. The few that I did were only a few days old so they were pretty fresh.stupid question from a carving noob: do you use green wood or dried wood?
It takes a bit of patience at first. Every notch takes multiple cuts but you will learn what part of the knife works best for each cut. My best advice is to just go for it! I'm sure you'll enjoy it.I would really wanna see a video of how you carve those sticks. I am totally a noob and have no idea how it is done, especially with those rounded corners.
