Ha ha, it's more like a "hard-assed" marsupial!
LITERALLY!!

My YouTube educamation tells me that these wombats defend themselves by sticking their head and body into a hole and leave the tough bony rear facing the predator...you just can't make this up :)

If they're facing you in their burrow, they defend themselves by walking towards you. When they reach you, they put their head on the ground and keep walking forwards. They push themselves underneath you and then stand up, crushing you against the roof. They kill wild dogs and dingos this way.

They're like little bowling balls with teeth! :D:D:D Very cool!:cool:
...... exactly this..... they are like fury rocks !!!!!!! They are some great pics, the place I hunt deer on have these everywhere but they are not as docile.....normally is is a case that I am walking through tussock (in warmer weather praying that Mr NoLegs is not down there somewhere (as you can't see your legs from about mid-calf/knee down) and the little buggers will wait till you are almost on them before taking off..... they scare the bejesus out of you as at hat moment they look like a hog.... I honestly can't tell you how many I have NEARLY shot for this !! Wombat holes have claimed many ankles, horses and motorcycles over the years as well !! Some can be huge but there is no mistaking what they are. When I was away last month I did nearly shoot one as the poor bugger had the worst case of mange I have seen on one in 25yrs... he decided to take off before I made up my mind (never have shot one and to be honest never want to - he was just in such a state, but if he took off as he did he may be happy enough). They are bad juju to hit in a car as well !!!

Those are great pics mate !!! I have a couple of pics of a mother and young'n I took down in Tasmania a few years ago, closest I have ever gotten to "wild ones" without them taking off !

Well I'm glad those things aren't around any more. Imagine going bushwalking.

I can see it now, I'm going to have wombats wandering around my yard either from Jerry or Garth. gotta admit, they are cute as a button but after some study they are in fact, terrible pets yet people try- Kind of like about this time of year I've had baby raccoons come walking in my shop. Couple years ago 1 kept hanging out with me for a month or so. He(or she? didn't look) would come walking in and climbed up on my workbench that goes the length of one wall. He would walk around investigating and I put a bowl of water out for him. He'd come in, get a drink and hang out a while then mosey on away. Must have outgrown me and finally quit coming around. Then the next year this big ass grown coon would come visit me and I'd talk to him and he'd go through the shop checking it all out and leave again. Haven't seen him for a while but once the sun sets I get all kinds of visitors, skunks, cats, coons and possums. And soon enough wombats HEHE~

20 years ago a good mate of mine had a trout farm in the high country of Victoria, His wife found a wombat that had been shot by hunters with a baby inside it's pouch. She took it home and hand reared it and it became a bit of a pet. Lived under the house but would come inside, they made a trap door so it would not knock the whole door off it's hinges, they are pound for pound the strongest animal out there. Loved to come up and start nudging your leg, then rolled over to have it's belly rubbed. They called him Walter and he was so funny and friendly.

Looks like a nice meal .are they good eating.
You need to get a pic with a roo with a mistress tucked into the pouch .lol.
Great pics
No you cannot eat them, plus is a indictable offence to kill them, they are a protected species.

I worked with a professional ecologist once, who specialised in wildlife surveys. In his lab he had giant freezers full of every type of native animal. He said he'd eaten one of every species he'd ever trapped, so I'm sure he tried wombat at some point. Never asked him what it tasted like.

I am glad we have finally acknowledged that it is everyone ELSE with the silly accents and not us !!!!

I love Roo on the BBQ !!!!! We had a multi-cultural day at work where everyone brought in some food "of their people" I took in a container of Beef Jerky I made up at home but labelled it "Koala Jerky".... :D :D a few did in fact try it !!!! Best part was got to have it on my desk for the next week and happily ate my way through it while generally freaking people out... :D

It's like John Cleese with the "silly walk". We are the ones that talk "proper". Good kangaroo is fantastic eating, so is underground mutton cooked the right way. When i used to go hunting in the high country i met a lot of real tough old time "bushies" and got some great camp oven recipes off them. Loved all the photos today of the wombats. They are my favorite Australian native. Keep in touch boys[ and or girls]. Good to chat with some locals on the forum.Have a good weekend Mr. Walker-you too son.
